Marvel has a reputation for laying the groundwork for major plot reveals well ahead in time. We witnessed the weird alien race called Skrulls in Captain Marvel. And the Marvel fans can’t help but wonder if they have seen these creatures apart from this film.

The shape-shifting creatures may have sparked a theory that questions the truth about a significant Marvel hero. Thor may not be who you think is after all. This has been an exciting reveal yet has some fans worried over the claims.

Marvel has used this strategy of dropping hints in many movies. Be it showing Wakanda on Nick Fury’s map in Iron Man 2 or the name-checking of Steven Strange in Winter Soldier. This creates a whole new kind of excitement amongst fans and Marvel is all game for it.

The theory suspects that the Skrulls have some odd connection with the characters we already know. Secret Invasion Storyline is a very important narrative in the MCU. In this story, the homeland of Skrulls is sabotaged by Galactus, and the survivors find their way onto the Earth and infiltrate the superhero community. They do this as a part of their scheme to eliminate the heroes permanently. This culminates in an epic battle where all superheroes have intruders among them. In the end, Norman Osborn is known to have saved the planet.

The Secret Invasion Storyline was rather intriguing in a notable way. That was until the Skrull infiltrators were activated by their masters, they thought of themselves as true Avengers. Meanwhile, the real heroes are kept in a temporary cessation of vital body functions to keep them dormant. They do not possess any memory of their kidnapping whatsoever.

So it is highly likely, the original lord of thunder was abducted and replaced by a Skrull.

According to Reddit user J-Patrick, Thor Ragnarok gives some kind of hint that the Odinson has been abducted by the Skrulls and replaced with one of their own. There are multiple instances in the film when Thor seems to have drifted away from his reality with some vague memories.

The theory suggests that he was taken captive before one of these incidents. After several months of his powers and memories being transferred into the body of a Skrull, he was frozen and the imposter Thor assumed his place.

Since Skrulls are natural shapeshifters they can also replicate a memory or a superpower just as easily. So it becomes almost impossible to tell them from the real superheroes. Thor lacks his Mjolnir in Ragnarok and Infinity War. Besides he starts exhibiting some new powers in addition. This seems suspiciously Skrull like. So is this nerve-wracking theory really true? Only time will tell.
