‘The Godfather’ Vs. ‘Goodfellas’. Which Is The Best Mob Movie Ever Made?!

by Kaylen Summers

We all know that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather and Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas are truly the best gangster movies out there. However, fans of the two iconic flicks often go on debates to find the finest of the two.

Undoubtfully both are very excellent movies. Coppola’s The Godfather is adapted from a fictional novel and Scorsese’s Goodfellas is a true-to-life biopic. One follows a traditional timeline and the other is nonlinear with choppy editing. However, these two well-crafted movies define their genre and are touchstones for all mob movies that got made after.

For those who are eager to find the best from these movies, here is a comparison of the good, bad and ugly from the two movies.

THE GODFATHER IS ROMANTIC PORTRAYAL OF MOB LIFE

Since the movie is based on a novel, the filmmakers had all the freedom to make The Godfather was free to make their lifestyle look glamorous. The Corleones family essentially picturized as the royalty in the criminal underworld. Even though there were occasional scenes like Sonny getting shot dead at a toll booth, most of the movie had their gangsters very glitzy and fabulous.

Gangsters were never this cool until Francis Ford Coppola gave an idealized Hollywood depiction to them.

GOODFELLAS IS THE REALISTIC PORTRAYAL OF MOB LIFE

One of the major differences between The Godfather and Goodfellas is that one is a work of fiction while the other is more of a realistic portrait. While the former glamorize the gangster lifestyle, the characters of Goodfellas are often shown doing the dirty work. The Corleones family is also shown filthy rich, while the characters of Goodfellas don’t make that much money.

The movie even ends with one of the mobsters ratting out on all of his friends. He secures his family’s safety in the Witness Protection Program. This itself is a nod to how realistic the movie’s storyline is portrayed.

THE GODFATHER HAS BRILLIANT PERFORMANCES

Whether the fiction element is good or not, it did help the movie’s actors give some of their greatest performances. Surely, Ray Liotta’s performance as Henry Hill in Goodfellas is truly remarkable. His portrayal of the guy who adores the gangster lifestyle and constantly cheats on his wife is phenomenal and intense. However, let not forget that Al Pacino’s turn as Michael Corleone in The Godfather is more nuanced than any performance in Goodfellas.

While Henry yells out what he’s feeling, Michael explains everything in a single facial expression. In addition to that, the subtle performances from supporting players like Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, James Caan, Talia Shire, John Cazale, and Diane Keaton only adds extra charm to the whole movie. Though Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci’s support in Goodfellas is riveting, it can never be compared to the ensemble of The Godfather.

GOODFELLAS HAS A FASTER PACE

There are many who criticizes The Godfather for being too slow. On the other hand, the pacing in Goodfellas is much quicker. The movie’s plot moves at breakneck speed, jumping back and forth along the timeline of the narrative. But, the makers did make sure that we will be getting all the information you need at any given moment.

In fact, it is this choppy editing of Goodfellas, that gives it the iconic style. In a way, it throws you right into the story at the deep end.

An Iconic Character from Spiderman to Cameo in Sony’s Morbius

by Emily Keen

There could be an unexpected cameo of a Spiderman character in Sony’s upcoming antihero flick Morbius. News has been doing rounds that J. K. Simmons could appear in Morbius in the form of J. J. Jameson.

A twitter handle, DR Movie News cited an unnamed source to have had a peek through the footage of the Daily Bugle editor-in-chief making an appearance in the Jared Leto film.

As reported by CBR.com – “Freelance media journalist Daniel Richtman seemed to confirm that footage of Simmons as J.J did exist for the upcoming Sony film, though no descriptions were provided.”

J. J. Jameson’s character has famously appeared in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman Trilogy. As of lately, he also made an appearance in Spiderman: Far From Home. MCU’s version of this fan-favorite character is in the form of a host of an online news show instead of an editor-in-chief of a newspaper.

It’s about time the two studios settle on a common version of hefty Simmons, as it seems he is not just passing by and is definitely sticking around.

Given the character has already appeared in a Marvel Studios film, it is clear that Sony needs an approval to use Jameson in Morbius.

So if they have come to an agreement on Jameson, does it mean that the SMCU and MCU are ready to build bridges?

If Jameson does make an appearance in Morbius, it is not wrong to assume that Sony well intends on sharing the Spider-Verse with the MCU.  In other words, Sony’s Venom and Morbius do not just exist in a shared universe of their own, but may somehow be connected to the MCU just like Spiderman.

Kevin Feige now has creative control over all Marvel characters and is also the one to broker the deal with Sony to maintain Spiderman’s presence across universes. It is possible that the new arrangement might have opened doors for various other characters to travel across the cinematic universes too. His statement about the new deal might have hinted at the existence of a multiverse between MCU and Sony’s Marvel characters.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” Feige said. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

Morbius starring Jared Leto as the eponymous character will be directed by Daniel Espinosa. Matt Smith will be playing Loxias Crown and Adria Arjona is set to don Martine Bancroft.  Further, we have Tyrese Gibson as Agent Stroud and Jarred Harris in an unnamed role. The film will open in theatres on July 31, 2020.

When Will Be The Next Endgame Level MCU Team-Up?! Here Is Your Answer

by Kaylen Summers

Avengers Endgame was a pretty huge conclusion to the 10-year-long saga of Marvel movies. The blockbuster is currently the highest-grossing film of all time and has no intention of leaving the crown behind anytime soon. But if you are expecting another mega movie event from MCU anytime soon, you are mistaken.

It seems like we have to wait another 10 years for such a movie event to happen again. Recently, Marvel Studios executive producer Trinh Tran explained about the time duration for seeing something like Avengers: Endgame again.

There is no doubt that the Infinity Saga wrapped up, with fans stunned and craving for more. With the pressure of the huge success over their head, recreating such an event again in a fresh new way is a huge challenge for Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and his gang. With that being said, the studios are now focusing only on the development of its Phase 4. Talking about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tran had this to say:

“Our focus right now is to make sure that the titles that we’ve released in Phase 4… obviously those stories are going to be new, exciting, different and can connect with the audience like the other movies have been. Over 10 years ago, it’s always been our dream to get to Infinity War and Endgame level. We didn’t know obviously where that was going to go at the start of the studio, but it’s incredible to know that we were able to accomplish that. Now it’d be amazing if we could get to that level 10 years later, so I think it’s a dream to continue doing that and build upon the MCU and the connective tissue that we have.”

Lately, Kevin Feige has been giving out a lot of information about what to expect in Phase 4 and probably Phase 5. With new stories ready to be explored, the MCU is also expanding further to join the small screen on the Disney+ streaming service. But, will Disney+ shows have any connection with the main Cinematic Universe? Trinh Tran had this to say.

“And now with obviously our Disney+ side and the shows and how our characters are venturing into that world and how that’s gonna lead to the future and more franchises and more stories and more properties and their connective tissue to the rest of the MCU, it would be amazing to do something like this 10 years later.”

Though everything seems to be well sorted out from the studio’s part, it seems like we have to wait further to see how well it all turns out. There are also many popular Fox products waiting to be explored by the studio. So hopes are high from the fans’ side.

Will there be an X-Men crossover anytime soon?! Or will be the Fantastic Four movie to happen first?! Tell us what you think about the Marvel’s Phase 4 plans

James Gunn Says It’s Okay if Genius Filmmakers Don’t Like Superhero Movies

by Emily Keen

Martin Scorsese taking a dig at Marvel movies, calling them “not cinema” has now escalated into a war of words between the directors who are for and against the comments.

In his resolve to support Martin’s thoughts, Francis Ford Coppola took a hard hit at the comic book movie universe. He called the films “Despicable”!

Speaking to a Journalist in Lyon where he was awarded the Prix Lumiere for his contribution to cinema, Coppola said:

“When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he’s right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration. I don’t know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again. Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is.”

James Gunn particularly could not stay quiet at the sound of this obnoxious criticism.

The Guardians of Galaxy director, however, did not call out to Coppola directly. He did but give quite a dignified response through an Instagram post using the word “Despicable”.

The post materialized with an image of an emotional scene shared by Groot and Rocket accompanied by captions in the vein of “a movie may not necessarily resonate across demographics”. He also highlighted how perceptions change with generations by citing examples of how our grandfathers and other elderly thought differently about movies that are in today’s time, considered classics. He ended by saying that if genius minds are not able to appreciate a movie loved by masses, it is still okay!

Here is James Gunn’s Instagram post with a statement responding to Coppola’s comments.

The dramatic exchange of emotions first began with Martin Scorsese saying in his interview with ‘Empire Magazine’, that he has had futile attempts of watching Marvel movies. He then doubled down the attack by classifying them into theme park adventures.

The Irishman director’s comments invited a twitter backlash from multiple Marvel actors and fans.

James Gunn had also responded to Scorsese’s comments saying

“Martin Scorsese is one of my 5 favorite living filmmakers. I was outraged when people picketed The Last Temptation of Christ without having seen the film. I’m saddened that he’s now judging my films in the same way.”

We do not know if Gunn’s response will settle this heated debate. Marvel is currently the biggest entertainment company in show business. It has given audiences around the world, a universe full of hope that is now a part of their lives. So it’s hard to say if fans will let go of an attack on something they have cherished for years, so easily.

Godfather Director Coppola Says Marvel Movies Are “Despicable”

by Kaylen Summers

It seems like Marvel movies are getting a lot of harsh criticism these days. After director Martin Scorsese and actress Jennifer Aniston, it is director Francis Ford Coppola showing his disagreement towards the superhero movies.

The master filmmaker supports the words of Scorsese stating that the MCU movies are nothing but theme park rides. It’s obvious that the director doesn’t like getting involved in anything from the superhero genre. The comments were made at the French city of Lyon where he was given the Prix Lumiere for his contribution to cinema. Talking to the journalists, Coppola said:

“When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he’s right because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration. I don’t know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again. Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is.”

When it comes to his works, Coppola is really selective and only initiates a project only if it interests him. Coppola’s last movies Distant Vision back in 2016 and the obscure fantasy horror comedy Twixt in 2011, were experimental cinemas. However, they did not do well with the general audience. However, the director is always be known among moviebuffs for his cult classic work, The Godfather.

Coppola has been working on his upcoming project Megalopolis for over two decades and with the recent comment riling up Marvel fans, the movie will be getting more attention than before. He had this to say about the film:

“I wanted to make a film about a human expression of what really is heaven on earth. I would say it’s the most ambitious film (I’ve worked on) — more than Apocalypse Now. That’s the problem. I think it would cost more than Apocalypse Now. It would be the biggest budget I ever had to work with.”

Francis Ford Coppola is one of the exclusive movie makers to be awarded the Prix Lumiere. Other recipients who previously received the prestigious award include Martin Scorsese, Pedro Almodovar, and Milos Forman.

With more and more top filmmakers and movie stars coming against the superhero movies, will the successful genre be affected? What do you think?! Let us know in the comments below.

Kevin Feige Takes Control of the Creative Segment of Marvel Entertainment

by Emily Keen

News broke on Tuesday that Kevin Feige is promoted as the chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment. So in addition to being the President of the company, he will also oversee the creative process of Marvel Entertainment’ s film, TV and comic ventures.

How exactly does this shift in power change things for Marvel Entertainment?

The structural framework remains steady where Feige will report to Walt Disney’s Co-Chairman and Chief Creative Officer Alan Horn and Co-Chairman Alan Bergman. Dan Buckley will continue as the President of Marvel TV but will now also report to Feige for creative and editorial issues in addition to checking in with Chairman Ike Perlmutter for operations, sales, games, and license. Meanwhile, Joe Quesada, Marvel CCO since 2010, will now serve as the creative lead and report directly to Buckley. Buckley shall also be responsible for supervising the creative executives in the publishing segment.

Besides Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of TV will now report to Kevin Feige and not to Dan Buckley.

Feige’s relationship with Marvel began in 2000 as the producer of X-Men. Feige has taken MCU to entirely new heights as the biggest Franchise of entertainment industry, grossing above $26 billion at the global box office across the past decade. He is also involved in the development of a Star-Wars movie for Lucasfilm owned by Disney. However, his career highlight came in 2019 with is Avengers: Endgame becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time surpassing Avatar.

Jane Foster’s Cancer Storyline Could Find its way in Thor: Love and Thunder

by Emily Keen

Taika Waititi recently teased that Thor: Love and Thunder might explore Jane Foster’s battle with breast cancer. Natalie Portman who will reprise her role as Jane Foster in the Ragnarok sequel, will acquire the abilities of an Asgardian and become female Thor as hinted by Waititi in his earlier interviews.

The new plot retains significant arcs from 2014 comic written by Jason Aaron with Russell Dauterman as the artist. Not only does Jane return but she returns as Mighty Thor. The question is will the makers be generous enough to lift the part about Jane’s battle with cancer as well?

As per the comic, Jane in her human form is diagnosed with breast cancer. Meanwhile, Thor grows unworthy of wielding the power of Mjolnir.

Following which the hammer grants its powers to Jane who becomes a new Mighty Thor. As a human, she cannot endure the effects of the painful disease. But her super-powered form is able to fight it owing to the powers rendered to her by the hammer.

Waititi seems much intrigued by the part of the story of Foster’s cancer battle. But he is not sure about how much of that story will make it into the film, since plans for Marvel films are subject to change even when late in production or editing phases.

In his recent interview with Variety, the Jojo Rabbit director said

“I think that’s a really powerful part of the books. I think it’s really cool that she’s fighting this thing and there’s two battles going on. Personally, I really love that storyline. But whether it ends up in the film is yet to be seen,”

Waititi has not worked with Portman’s character before since she was missing in Ragnarok. The writer/director approached the Oscar-winning actress to make a comeback in Love and Thunder for an even more promising role than she had in the first two installments of the series.

Chris Hemsworth will reprise his eponymous character along with Portman’s Jane and Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie. The storyline if retained will tackle a powerful subject and could in some way prove inspirational to the cancer-stricken around the world.

Thor: Love and Thunder will open in theatres on November 5, 2021. Don’t miss Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit which hits the screens on October 18.

Are Captain Marvel and Valkyrie the Rainbow Lovers of MCU?

by Emily Keen

Marvel has already made a strong statement by letting its women fight the biggest war alongside its men. But people really want Marvel to be explicit in their support to the LGBTQ community as well. Fans have come up with a sizzling theory of Captain Marvel romancing the Valkyrie in the upcoming movies.

Valkyrie is the first openly bisexual hero of the Marvel universe. But until yet, this has not been made evident in any of the movies. Now that Endgame officially upstaged her as the new ruler of Asgard, fans cannot wait to know more about her life.

There is strong proof about Tessa’s character being bisexual in the comics. But the comic’s version of Valkyrie finds her love interest in Annabelle Riggs. Captain Marvel’s sexuality has however been kept under wraps until now. The comic book version of Captain Denvers is straight. But there also exists a gay version of the character.

Both Larson and Thompson, however, do not mind setting screens on fire with their romance.

In a recent interview during ACE comic con, Chicago they were quite supportive of the idea.

Brie said “We’re here to ship, ya’ll! We can dig into it, I’m just telling you we’re shipping,”. While Tessa backed Larson by adding “Brie is my real-life queen, in general. If it becomes canon, that’s cool, too.”

Both actors share a great friendship offscreen.

Brie even tweeted a fan art last march which showcased their Marvel characters in a romantic embrace.

And a few days later, Tessa Thompson returned the gesture.

This is not the first speculation around Valkyrie’s love interest. There has been much buzz regarding the probable lady love of Asgard’s new ruler.

A few days earlier Jamie Alexander’s Lady Sif had volunteered to be the queen.

Jamie-alexander-volunteers-to-be-valkyrie's-queen

A few think Jane Foster’s return in Thor: Love and Thunder could probably be a new chapter in valkyrie’s life. Looks like we have many Marvel women crushing over the female warrior.

It is too early to decide if Captain Marvel and Valkyrie will be portrayed as a couple given their crucial roles in two separate movies. The realization of this theory will need a strong and convincing narrative that resonates with the audience. And fans can sure afford to be wrong about theories, but not being disappointed with the script.

Secrets Revealed! Will Disney Buy Back Spider-Man from Sony?!

by Kaylen Summers

These days, the relationship with Disney and Sony feels more like two divorced parents trying to decide where their children should spend the summer vacation. And like every relationship it was so exciting and fabulous when it all began. Fans were so thrilled to see Spiderman back home fighting the battles with Avengers.

As for money, the initial idea was that 10% of the revenue collected will go to Disney and rest to Sony. However, things changed last summer as the Mouse House demanded a 50-50 deal and Sony packed its bags and left the house.

The dispute regarding the deal did recently come to end with Sony agreeing on 25% for Disney. Yet, recent rumors are indicating that there is a secret plan for Disney to shell out a lot of money to buy back Spiderman from Sony.

It is clear that Disney is not down with the recent agreement to work together again for a Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel and an unknown upcoming MCU movie. The Mouse House is known for its famous acquisitions and plans to continue it by taking full control of Spiderman. That too for a whopping $5 billion, if Sony agrees.

It was Mikey Sutton who revealed the details of the studios’ intentions. Though not much is known about the character, it is now assumed Disney and Marvel want Tom Holland and Brie Larson to lead the MCU into the future. This, in turn, opens up the possibilities for Holland’s Spider-Man to become the new leader of the Avengers.

Considering the $1.1 billion the last Spiderman movie grossed in global ticket sales, the investment could make easy returns for Disney and Marvel Studios in no time. But, the real question is whether Sony will take up the offer. After all $5 billion is a lot of cash and Sony is busy with its own Spiderman Universe (Ironically, without the actual Spiderman!).

What do you think? Would it be wise to sell Spiderman to Disney? Tell us know in the comments below.

Coming 2 America Will Not Be Rated R; Here Is The Reason.

by Kaylen Summers

Even in the midst of busy promotions for Dolemite Is My Name, it seems like Eddie Murphy is not going to stop giving us inside scoops about the other works on his slate.

Recently, the actor revealed that his highly anticipated project Coming 2 America will not be rated R and more likely be getting a PG-13 rating. The long-awaited sequel was expected to have an R-rating like the first installment.

On the other hand, the Dolomite movie will be R-rated, marking twenty years since the actor put out an adult comedy. Life with Martin Lawrence (1999) was his last film from the sub-genre and many fans were hoping that Prince Akeem Joffer’s return would bring him back to his roots.

Talking about the ratings of comedies over the years, Murphy had this to say: “I think what happened was, there was a period when Hollywood was on some PG-13… that’s how you reached most audiences. And there was, maybe, a 15-year period where that’s all everybody was doing. So I got caught up in that sh*t. But no, doing this movie, we went, ‘This movie has to be rated R because of the way Rudy Ray Moore was.’ But I’m doing Coming to America next, and that’s PG-13.”

Directed by John Landis, the 1988 movie is about the African Prince Akeem who has to marry a woman he has never seen on his 21st birthday. determined to find the woman he can love and respect, the prince breaks the tradition and goes to America.

Initially making a name for himself in comedies like Coming to America,  it was only later in the late 1990s and early 2000s that the actor found his success formula for family comedies. Movies like The Nutty Professor and the Shrek came as a result of this. Now it seems like Murphy is looking to bring the same formula back with Coming 2 America. Besides that, the makers are planning to release the sequel during the holiday season. That explains a lot about the gentler rating.

Currently in the pre-production phase, Coming 2 America is expected to release in theatres on December 18th, 2020. It seems like we have to wait and see if Eddie Murphy’s comedy formula still works after over 30 years.

6 Netflix Movies With Awesome Twist Ending

by Kaylen Summers

It seems fair to say that a good plot-twist in the third act can surely make your movie experience worth it. There is nothing like investing a good 90, 95 minutes in a story and then out of nowhere the ending completely turning everything you saw upside down. These movie moments are so priceless that they become the most lauded and crucial aspect of the film.

Take M. Night Shyamalan movies for example. The guy has literally made a living out of making movies with twist endings. But, those are the best ones. End up with one of the worst and you will be wondering why you wasted your time watching it.

Thankfully, Netflix has a long list of movies with great twist endings and we have picked 6 of the best ones from them.

1. The Invitation (2015)

⌛ 1h 40min  ⭐6.6/10

This movie is brilliant in its ability to conjure two interesting plots into one. The first one terrifies you with a cult performing some dreadful ritual, while the second story is about a man who is driven into the point of a complete mental breakdown because of his past.

2. Devil (2010)

⌛ 1h 20m  ⭐6.2/10

Produced and written by none other than M. Night Shyamalan, this movie has one hell of a twisted ending. The flick is about a group of people stuck in an elevator together. Soon, they start dying one by one and it becomes obvious that one among them is behind all this. The movie ends with a shocking reveal of who really is the devil among them.

3. Vanilla Sky (2001)

⌛ 2h 17m  ⭐6.9/10

Telling the story of David Aames, a publishing magnate, this flick has Tom Cruise playing the lead role. Aames gets into a car crash and scars his face. The incident forces him into an existential crisis and raises questions about the existing reality of his life. However, all these questions are given a shocking answer with a remarkable plot twist at the end of the movie.

4. Primal Fear (1996)

⌛ 2h 10m  ⭐7.7/10

Edward Norton plays the role of a stuttering altar boy in this legal thriller. He is accused of murder. Suffering from multiple personality disorder, he seems to have no knowledge of the murder committed by his alter ego, Roy. Think you know what the twist is?! Then you are definitely in for a surprise.

5. Raw (2016)

⌛ 1h 39m  ⭐7/10

Raw has a straightforward plot about a French cannibal discovering her sexuality (and taste for human flesh). Apparently, that is as straight forward as it can get, as the movie forwards into a more mythological ending. Surely this one is not for the faint of heart.

6. The Village (2004)

⌛ 1h 39m  ⭐6.5/10

Written and directed by the master of plot twists, M. Night Shyamalan, the twist in The Village may sound a little dumb at first. However, you have to hand it to the director for making such an unrepentant big swing in the third act. Watch the movie just for that.

Edward Norton Finally Reveals The Truth About Kevin Feige’s “Cheap” Press Release

by Kaylen Summers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is surely one of the top movie franchises that Hollywood has ever seen. Though their movies are huge blockbusters at the box office, there are many deep dark secrets that the studio is trying to hide. One such secret is finally out from The Incredible Hulk Star Edward Norton. The actor finally revealed why he left the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his relationship with Kevin Feige.

It was in the second installment of Universal’s Hulk franchise that Norton took up the character. However, it didn’t last long and he eventually left the franchise making way for Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk.

After a long silence since then, the actor has opened up about the situation in detail. It was during a recent profile honoring Edward Norton’s new directorial effort Motherless Brooklyn that the actor revealed his views on the movie business. When asked about the friction with the brass at Marvel, he had this to say about it:

“Well, no. I loved the ‘Hulk’ comics,” Nortan explained, “I believed they were very mythic. And what Chris Nolan had done with Batman was going down a path that I aligned with: long, dark and serious. If there was ever a thing that I thought had that in it, it was the Hulk. It’s literally the Promethean myth. I laid out a two-film thing: The origin and then the idea of Hulk as the conscious dreamer, the guy who can handle the trip. And they were like, ‘That’s what we want!’ As it turned out, that wasn’t what they wanted. But I had a great time doing it. I got on great with Kevin Feige.”

It was obvious that these were not going great with him and Marvel. The studios even had Kevin Feige release a press release that said they were looking for someone who “embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit of our other talented cast members” for The Avengers. However, Norton looks back at that specific press release as cheap, and has this to say:

“Yeah, which was cheap. It was brand defensiveness or something. Ultimately they weren’t going for long, dark and serious. But it doesn’t matter. We had positive discussions about going on with the films, and we looked at the amount of time that would’ve taken, and I wasn’t going to do that. I honestly would’ve wanted more money than they’d have wanted to pay me. But that’s not why I would’ve wanted to do another ‘Hulk’ movie anyway. I went and did all the other things I wanted to do, and what Kevin Feige has done is probably one of the best executions of a business plan in the history of the entertainment industry. As a Disney shareholder, you should be on your feet for what they pulled off.”

Whatever the creative disagreements maybe, let us not forget that the MCU has generated billions at the box office and The Incredible Hulk still remains the lowest-grossing entry to date.

We all have seen the fate of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio in the last Marvel movie, Spiderman: Far From Home. Though the fabulous villain fooled us for a moment with his inter-dimensional back story, all his illusions eventually came to an end. Or did it?!

Now a popular fan theory is suggesting that the character is pretty much alive and well. The theory advocates that it is because of this that Jake Gyllenhaal has refused to answer any questions of a possible return in the future movies.

Though it may sound over-the-top at first, it is possible. Over his long comic-book history, Mysterio is known for pulling out stunts like this and even faking his own death. One of the strongest reasons to believe that he did the same in his movie debut comes from how he got enough time to set up Peter Parker and reveal his true identity publicly. The cliffhanger was perfect in setting up the sequel. However, it does leave behind a major plothole regarding how Mysterio was able to pull off such a great scheme in his last minutes, and that too in a short interval of time.

According to the theory, Mysterio created the video after his battle with Peter Parker and fooling him that he is actually dead. Considering the amount of work that has gone in the mid-credits ‘news video’, it’s safe to assume that this could actually be true. And there is plenty of evidence to prove that too. So, lets put our Sherlock hat on and analyze them one by one.

EVIDENCE #1: Really Bad Timing.

The post-credit news-clip has Parker ordering the drones for execution. Though it was actually meant for disabling all the drones, our evil mastermind tweaked it to look as if spidey is the bad guy. However, in the original course of the movie, this actual scene happens after Mysterio is down struggling for his life. Anyone who does a side-by-side comparison of both scenes can easily understand the change in actors’ positions and timing.

EVIDENCE #2: The Suit.

The news clip shows the Spidey baddie in his suit. But, in the original sequence of the movie, he was just wearing his motion-tracking suit. Yes! Anyone can easily argue that it might be his team doing all the Vfx work. But why should anyone in his team bother to such an extent if there is no one to lead them?! Not to mention how rude Beck was with his teammates.

EVIDENCE #3: Here Is Some Nerdy Science Stuff.

When a person dies or loses consciousness, their pupil muscles become released and they are fully dilated.  But in the scene where we see Mysterio laying motionless, this is never shown as he is both alive & conscious.

mysterio-dead or alive

EVIDENCE #4: Who The Hell Would Make  Such A Video When They Hit With Bullets And Dying ?!

(That doesn’t need any explanation!)

But, does this all really mean that Beck faked his own death?! Although it is really fun to think that the fake death is all part of a great contingency plan by Quentin Beck and his team, there is not much official back up to really hold this theory up.

If it did turn out to true, we would be really happy to see Jake Gyllenhaal back onscreen as Mysterio again in any of the future Spiderman films. But, at this point in time, there is no chance of it happening anytime soon.

Exclusive! Guess Who Will Be Directing Spiderman 3?!

by Kaylen Summers

Spiderman is busy making headlines lately and the latest one is about who will be directing the third installment coming out next year. Recent reports are revealing that Jon Watts is in final talks to direct Spider-Man 3, the continuation to this summer’s blockbuster hit Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Sony and Marvel Studios finally reaching a deal to bring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This means that Watts will be able to bring a conclusion to his trilogy, retaining his signature youthfulness and fun energy.  With Jon Watts closing in on the deal to direct the threequel, it is obvious that the third installment (probably) will also be a huge success like the first two blockbusters.

Earning around $880 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming was a huge success at the box office. With the partnership paying off well for both studios, Sony was more than happy to let Peter Parker showed up in Civil War, Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. The success was also reflected in the Far From Home as well, as it made over $1 billion. This inturn made it the highest-grossing movie ever for Sony.

As remarkable as these movies are, Jon Watt’s directorial style should also be mentioned as it played a huge factor in making the first two installments so profitable. With the director back on franchise, it’s obvious that the next one will also be a box office frontrunner.

Since the creative team behind the last two movies are back, we are also happy that we will be getting a proper explanation to the heavy cliffhanger at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. If everything goes smoothly with Sony and Marvel, there is also a chance that we will be seeing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in more MCU movies.

Spiderman 3 is set to hit theaters on July 16th, 2021.

by Kaylen Summers

This weekend, it was the animated family movie Abominable which took the top position at the box office. Grossing in a $20.8 million cume domestically, the movie picked up an additional $10 million overseas, making a grand total to $30.8 million.

Directed by Jill Culton. the movie is the first animated Hollywood studio project to have a woman credited as the main director and writer. With the box office success over this past weekend, it is obvious that Culton is definitely celebrating.

Bringing in $10.4 million, Andres Muschietti’s IT Chapter Two is seated at the fourth position. Though the horror sequel didn’t make much impression compared to the first installment, it did manage to collect $417 million globally and doesn’t seem like stopping anytime soon.

The critically acclaimed Ad Astra earned $10.1 million and took the fifth spot this weekend. With Brad Pitt in the lead role, the movie opened to positive reviews last week.

Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo: Last Blood seems to fall down to number six this weekend with an $8.5 million cume. The long-awaited sequel was expected to be a front runner at the box office. However, with the negative feedback from critics and fans, marching back up the charts seems to be an impossible task at the moment.

Other movies in the top ten include the Judie Garland biopic, Judy at number seven and Good Boys at number eight. The comedy flick currently brought in a global grand total of $104 million. Disney’s Lion King still reins the box office with its ninth position and action thriller Angel Has Fallen at the tenth.

FIRST TIME EVER! Marvel To Release 4 MCU Movies in One Year. Here Is The List.

by Kaylen Summers

Just when you thought that all the dust is going to settle, Marvel Studios is back in the game, set to break new ground in the coming year. Four different big-screen MCU entries are slated for 2021.

First in the list will be Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings slated to release on February 12, 2021. Announced over the summer at San Diego Comic-Con, the movie will be part of MCU’s Phase 4 slate and will star Simu Liu as the titular martial arts master.

Then it will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will hit the screen on May 7, 2021. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the movie will see Benedict Cumberbatch in his a solo movie sequel as the Sorcerer Supreme.  Scarlet Witch will also be a part of this installment and Nightmare will be the main villain.

Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to release late on November 5, 2021. The movie will see Ragnarok director Taika Waititi back calling the shots and also the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. But, she will be more than just a pretty face this time, as the actress is set to become the Mighty Thor.

Though this was initially believed to be the slate for 2021, it seems like we got a final minute entry into the list. With Sony and Marvel finally getting back together, Spider-Man 3 will also be releasing on July 16 of 2021. However, little is known about the specifics of the deal. Still, MCU fans have a lot to cheer for in the coming year.

The studio has been releasing two movies a year for quite some time. It wasn’t until 2017 that three releases were made in a year- with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. However, 2021 will surely be a crowded year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as this is the first time they are releasing four movies in a single year. Guess we have to wait and see how things turn out for the studios with such a year planned ahead.

Though Holland’s perfect reaction to the reunion news was really impressive, it was Spider-Man: Far From Home star Zendaya who was first to post her reaction on social media. Posted a gif of a dancing Spider-Man, her reaction summed up the way how a lot of fans felt.

Hulk star Mark Ruffalo also had a pretty snappy response to Holland’s social media, saying: “Back in a snap! Had a feeling we would see you again.”

Avengers: Endgame Ends It’s Box Office Run

by Kaylen Summers

Disney is surely having a wonderful year as the Mouse House now owns most of the successful franchises in Hollywood. Disney-owned Marvel Studios proved this fact again , as it recently broke some huge box office records with its blockbuster Avengers: Endgame. The movie saw Marvel’s revolutionary approach of cinematic world-building coming to an epic culmination.

With a total box office time of 20 weeks and 140 days, Avengers: Endgame closed its domestic release on September 12. In this phenomenal period of time, the Russo brothers’ three-hour galactic epic surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time.

Now, with a massive initial box office presence and a ‘record-breaking’ re-release (literally!), it seems like the movie of the year is finally ready to rest from its box office run.

Cameron’s sci-fi adventure rolled in a $2,789,679,794 worldwide, over a decade ago. However, with a total collection of $2,796,274,401, Endgame finally overtook the throne with grace and style. This is an incredible feat, even though the difference is only about a $6.5 million.

Just below this list is another James Cameron movie Titanic with $2,187,463,944, followed by $2,068,223,624 for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War comes fifth with $2,048,359,754. Movies like Jurassic WorldThe Lion King (2019), and Marvel’s The Avengers are also in the worldwide list occupying the sixth, seventh and eighth position respectively.

With Disney finally deciding to take Endgame out of theaters, it won’t be long before we see the movie running in the home video department. However, the move comes with a price. Though it broke most box office records, it looks like Endgame will have to finally settle for second place in the all-time domestic box office. Apparently, the force is still with Star Wars: The Force Awakens on that one.

Of course, Endgame is just one of the incredibly victorious flicks from for Marvel Studios. After 17 weeks in theaters, Captain Marvel collected $1.128 billion, while Spider-Man: Far From Home brought home another $1.28 billion.

Spider-Man: Far From Home Beats Captain Marvel; Becomes 3rd Biggest Film in 2019

by Kaylen Summers

It seems like 2019 is the year fro Disney, as yet another film from it’s Marvel roaster is making its way to the top of the charts. Recent box office numbers are revealing that Spider-Man: Far From Home has surpassed the number three spot held by Captain Marvel for a while. In addition to that, the movie is also now the 8th highest-grossing film the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So far, the Spider-Man sequel has earned $1,128,276,196 worldwide, overtaking Captain Marvel’s total gross of $1,128,274,794 worldwide. However, when it comes to domestic sales, it still stands tall at $426,829,839. In the second place, there is The Lion King which has made $533,992,775 domestically and $1,616,992,775 worldwide. Of course, these numbers are nothing compared with Avengers: Endgame, which still remains as the top-grossing movie of all time with $858,373,000 earned domestically and $2,796,274,401 worldwide.

With the numbers laid out like this, there is no doubt that Disney is easily the strongest brand in all of the entertainment. However, given the recent split between Sony and Disney, this may get particularly magnified for the future entries in the Spider-Man franchise.

Spider-Man: Far From Home features Tom Holland (Spider-Man/Peter Parker), Zendaya (MJ), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio) in the lead roles. Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) are the other stars of the movie.

The movie is the next chapter to Marvel’s Spider-Man series and the sequel to Spiderman: Homecoming. Our friendly neighborhood web-slinger is on a European vacation with his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang. However, all plans turn upside down as he agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of the elemental creature attacking and creating havoc across the continent.

Other top spot earned of 2019 include Toy Story 4 ($432,395,259 domestic, $$1,057,895,259 worldwide) at the fourth spot and Aladdin at number five ($355,088,567 domestic, $1,046,920,888 worldwide). Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw ($168,317,320 domestic, $740,917,320 worldwide) has made it to the sixth place and is so far the only non-Disney owned property in the list.

Will Iron Man Make A Cameo In Black Widow Movie?!

by Kaylen Summers

Finally, after a decade of being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Black Widow is finally getting her own standalone movie. However, there is more to cheer about the upcoming Marvel flick than just that. Recent reports are revealing that Robert Downey Jr. will most probably be making a cameo in the movie as everyone’s favorite billionaire, Tony Stark.

Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow, with David Harbour suiting up as Russia’s version of Captain America, Red Guardian. Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh will also appear in the movie as other Black Widow agents. Taskmaster will be the main villain of the story. With his ability to quickly observe and copy any person’s fighting style, he is meant to become a formidable foe for Black Widow.

Not much information about Downey Jr.’s return is mentioned by the studios, which makes fans wonder whether if it will be just Marvel reusing their old clips or an actual cameo. It won’t be a surprise if Marvel is using old footage instead of filming a new scene. They have already done it many times in the past. The continuing tradition of a Stan Lee cameo in every Marvel movie even after the legendary comic-book creator’s death is a perfect example for this.

If in fact, he is reprising the role, then it’s most likely be for just a cameo or a very minor role. The Black Widow footage screened at Comic-Con used a clip of Tony from Civil War, warning Natasha “They’re coming for you,” before leading into new footage from the film. The footage also revealed the time period of the movie to be when she was hiding from the United Nations. So, there is a possibility that she may seek out Tony’s help or at least contact him during the course of the movie.

Whatever the reason for Downey Jr. potentially reprising his role, it will surely be awesome to see Stark back on-screen on more time. Unfortunately, we will have to wait some more time before anything official is be announced publicly.

Alternate Iron Man Post-Credits Scene Reveals Mutants & Radioactive Spider References

by Kaylen Summers

Its seems like Avengers: Endgame only kicked things into gear. Though the recent Comic-Con and D23 announcements point ot new adventures,  it seems like Kevin Feige is not finished with Phase 4 yet. Recently at the Saturn Awards, the studio boss revealed a never-before-seen Iron Man alternate post-credit scene.

Marvel Studios is surely one of the most successful movie studios in all of Hollywood now. But, the journey to reach there looked far when the Marvel Cinematic Universe kicked off in 2008. Their first film was a fight against all odds as it was based around what many believed to be a C-list Marvel character (Ironman)  and directed by a then unproven director, Jon Favreau. Even Robert Downey Jr. at the time was viewed as a risk due to his problems in his personal life.

From there, the MCU has evolved further and better without many of their biggest characters. With the live-action rights of characters sold off to film studios in the ’80s, it was only recently that Fox’s characters returned back under Marvel Studios thanks to the Disney-Fox deal. Sony and Marvel Studios also had agreed to work together to make Spidey part of the MCU (The deal, however, came to an end, recently), while Universal’s deal has made a Hulk solo film complicated. However, the newly revealed alternate version of Iron Man’s post-credits scene teased all of these universes long before it was all interlinked.

The deleted alternate post-credits scene from Iron Man, which has been sitting in the Marvel Studios vault for eleven years now, is part of the upcoming Infinity Saga box set. Revealing the clip, Feige said, “We pulled some things out of that vault that we said, ‘We’ll never show to anybody. Put it away. We’re bringing them out. We’re putting them on this disc.”

Here is what Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury had to say in the scene: “As if gamma accidents, radioactive bug bites, and assorted mutants weren’t enough, I have to deal with a spoiled brat, who doesn’t play well with others, who wants to keep all his toys to himself.”

The “gamma accidents” is a reference to how Hulk got his powers, while the “radioactive bug bites” is a friendly nod to Spider-Man, who at the time was nowhere near the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, the real reason why the clip got replaced might be because of the “assorted mutants” reference. The X-Men and Mutants were owned by Fox, and Marvel was not allowed to make any references to them in their films. Whatever the reason may be, the clip is a perfect example of how keen Kevin Feige’s vision was for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

More unreleased contents are expected, as The Infinity Saga box set is expected to release towards Christmas 2019.

Spider-Man To Join Venom & Morbius in Sony’s Marvel Universe

by Kaylen Summers

With Marvel effectively removing Spider-Man from all future MCU movies, it looks like the drama between Sony and Disney isn’t getting better anytime soon. But, fans hopefully have something to cheer for in the midst, as sony is all set to introduce Spidey to Venom and Morbius. The three characters will be sharing the same cinematic universe going forward, which means we will be seeing a lot of crossovers after all.

It was back in 2014 that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures decided to reboot Spider-Man into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sadly, the high-profile deal collapsed recently, allowing Sony to be the sole owner of the wall-crawler and produce their own Spider-Man movies without Marvel Studios.

Though many fans had high hopes that Sony and Marvel would find a way to reconcile. Now, it seems unlikely as the two rival studios are headed into very different directions. Kevin Feige will be focused on corporate priorities such as Disney+ and the new Fox acquisitions. In the meantime, Sony will be testing out all the lessons it had learned from Marvel to make an independently successful Spider-Man movie.

Recently Sony chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra have confirmed on Sony’s plans for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

“Spider-Man was fine before the event movies,” he explained. “[He] did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well. I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here.”

As expected, we will be seeing Tom Holland’s Spiderman and Tom Hardy’s Venom together on screen in the near future. But that’s not all, Jared Leto’s Morbius the Living Vampire will also be getting in on the action. Unfortunately, their won’t be Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to lend a hand. Yet, Tony Vinciquerra feels confident about the plans.

He explains: “We had a great run with (Feige) on Spider-Man movies. We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out… the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand, we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn’t do all the work.”

Kevin Feige is already pretty much caught up with all of the new Marvel Studios acquisitions following the recent Fox deal. Anyhow, Sony is still at it by bringing in Andy Serkis on board to direct Venom 2. The first installment did not do well with comic book fans and critics. But, it was a huge box office success. With the second installment, Sony is planning on getting some edge by going for an R-rating.

Only time will tell whether Sony’s plans will work out or not. Till then you can check out our blog for more stories about Sony’s Marvel Universe from our website.

Tom Holland Thinks That The Future Of Spiderman Is Safe With Sony

by Kaylen Summers

For many comic book movie fans, August 20 still remains as a dreadful day. The day marks Disney and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige’s announcement that they would no longer be involved with future “Spider-Man” movies. It is obvious that the decision will effectively end Tom Holland’s role as Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Holland will continue to play the web-slinger in films produced and distributed by Sony, he will not be able to pop up in ‘Avengers’-style team-up or standalone movies tied up to the larger MCU.

Talking about the chain of events, the actor assured fans that his spiderman franchise will continue to grow better under Sony’s backing.

He went on to express his confidence in Sony, saying: “I’m not shy about expressing how incredible the last five years have been with Marvel. I’ve truly had the time of my life, and in so many respects, they have made my dreams come true as an actor. Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill, and commitment. The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I’ve made friends for life along the way.”

It was not the first time that Holland shared similar thoughts. During Disney’s D23 convention, shortly after the news of the Disney-Sony split was announced, the actor promised fans that he would “continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of [his] life,” adding, “It’s going to be so fun, however, we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”

Keeping a cool head and remaining intensely positive is respectable. The actor is literally in the middle of something of an ugly situation between two massive corporations. Yet, as fans, we have some concerns for his version of Spiderman.

When it comes to making superhero movies, Kevin Feige has a proven track record. However, Sony doesn’t arguably have a good live-action Spider-Man movie in their list since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2. Yes, the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did perform will with fans and critics. But it’s a bit of a different ballgame. The only other hit from Sony’s Spiderman universe is Venom, which was financially successful, but not critically welcomed. Point being, it’s easy to understand why one would be worried about Sony handling the franchise without Feige.

The damage has already been done and now all we can do is to hope that Tom Holland is right about Sony.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Cameo for Venom Got Removed by Marvel?

by Kaylen Summers

The recent disputes between Marvel and Sony have put Spider-Man’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe under jeopardy. Though fans are hoping for some wild Disney magic to turn everything back to normal and it seems like its far from happening as Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are done.

“It was a dream that I never thought would happen,” Feige explained during this year’s D23 convention. “It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.”

The news is indeed sad and frustrating for any true comic-book fan out there. However, let’s not forget to consider the possibilities this ‘break-up’ offers too. Sony’s already existing Venom universe is a good place to start from. Fans are dying to see Spiderman and Venom share screen and with Marvel out of the way, Sony can now act on their plans to have the Wall-Crawler meet Venom without Marvel’s co-sign.

It’s such a wonderful plan that they could have cashed in on it long before, right? Well, it turns out that Sony may have already tried it once, but Marvel reportedly was so adamant not to go forward with it.

On an episode of Collider Live, Jay Washington said that Tom Holland was supposed to make a cameo in the Sony Spider-Man universe. But it was eventually cut due to Marvel asking for the scene to be removed.

Washington explained: “I’ll tell you the truth: Tom Holland did film a scene for Venom… Marvel saw the movie and was like ‘Take him out. Take this scene out.’ Peter Parker was in Venom, not Spider-Man.”

Marvel was handling the sticky superhero quite well, while Sony was focusing on building its own Spiderman universe with Venom. Though it was far from being a critical darling, the movie gave Sony the hit they desperately needed. Buoyed by Venom‘s success, a sequel is already in the pre-production stage with Andy Serkis set to helm the project. The movie will be pitting Eddie Brock against his nemesis, Cletus Kasady/Carnage. But, it was obvious that the studio wants to see both Venom and Spiderman face it off on the big screen one way or the other.

Whatever the case may be, Venom 2  is shaping up to be a true R-rated flick, with Tom Hardy himself helping out with the script. While it’s too early to know if Tom Holland will make a cameo in the sequel, we should be expecting anything as Sony can now basically do whatever they want with the web-slinger.

Kit Harington To Play Marvel’s Black Knight.

by Kaylen Summers

After the severe backlash following Spiderman’s departure, Marvel is trying to calm their fans down with some good casting announcements. Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige revealed at this year’s D23 Expo that the Game of Thrones star Kit Harington will be playing the role of Dane Whitman a.k.a Marvel’s Black Knight in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick The Eternals.

For MCU fans, the news comes with tremendous excitement. However, the real cherry on top came when Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige sat down with ‘Good Morning America’ backstage at D23 Expo. When asked about Kit Harington’s newest role, Feige shared that we will be seeing more of the character’s presence in the franchise than just his debut movie.

“He’s a really amazing actor, and this part came up in The Eternals film that we’re doing,” Feige said, “We were so happy when he agreed to join, and it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”

Whitman first appeared in The Avengers #47 way back in the 1960s. Descendent to the original Black Knight and nephew to the villainous second Black Knight, Harington’s character is the third to bear the Black Knight moniker. After his evil uncle perished after a fight with everyone’s favorite billionaire, Iron Man, Whitman inherited the Ebony Blade- a cursed, mystical sword that has been passed down from generation to generation. He then takes up the Black Knight title to restore honor to his family name. The Character has been a longtime member many different versions of Avengers’ throughout the history of Marvel Comics. He has also joined up with other popular teams like the ‘Defenders’ and ‘Heroes for Hire’.

With the arrival of Disney’s streaming service, Marvel will have more creative freedom to explore new characters and stories. A Black Knight TV series can possibly help Harington’s role to grow into something bigger. But, all have to wait till Phase 5 as Marvel’s Phase 4 schedule seems to be complete.

Taika Waititi Confirms; Two Thors for Marvel’s ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’.

by Kaylen Summers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe saw the end of its third phase this summer with Spiderman: Far From Home. With more than a decade of movies behind them, the studio has already been revealing its plans for Phase Four through events like San Diego Comic-Con and this year’s D23. One among such big Marvel movies announced at Comic-Con this year was Thor: Love and Thunder.

The blockbuster features the return of the fan-favorite Avenger Thor portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie will be the first time a Marvel hero is given a fourth solo movie. Waititi is worth mentioning for his quick wits that breathed new life into the franchise when he helmed the action-packed, cheekily irreverent take on the Marvel superhero in Ragnarok. However, there is another reason why fans are super excited about the upcoming movie.

Natalie Portman will be returning back to the franchise to reprise the role of Jane Foster. That’s not all. The actress is coming back to the MCU as Mighty Thor. The original God of Thunder is sure to have a run for his money.

Oh, wait! What will happen to our Thor if Natalie is the new one?

There is no need for confusions as the director himself clarified this confusion. Talking in an interview at Disney’s D23 Expo, Waititi explained: “[She’s] a Thor. There’s still the other Thor, the original Thor. She’s not called Female Thor. In the comics, she’s called the Mighty Thor. It comes from that comic run. I couldn’t be more happy and excited.”

Jane Foster becoming the Mighty Thor is a major story-arc in the comics. However, we cannot say that movie will be adapting that storyline entirely. In the comics, Jane becomes the Thor after the original Thor became unworthy to wield Mjolnir. But, from what director Waititi recently confirmed, there will be two Thors in the film.

The director explained previously in an interview with Variety about how he convinced Portman to return, and how he wanted to finally make the actress into a full-fledged superhero.

“I just said to her, ‘Are you interested in coming back to this thing, but doing something really different?'”Waititi revealed, “Because another thing, no one wants to keep repeating themselves and no one wants to play the same characters all the time. And I think for her, just coming back reprising that character but in this whole fresh new way, is really what I think would interest anyone. Especially, in most of these films, if you’re not a superhero… do you really want to keep doing that? I mean, I wouldn’t. I would want to come back and change things up.”

Whatever the case may be, we are super-excited and eager to see two Thors on screen. Though the movie only premieres in theaters on November 5, 2021, the wait is worth it now.

Black Panther II Release Date Announced at the D23 Expo.

by Emily Keen

Kevin Feige officially took to the D23 expo stage to announce the release date for the sequel of Black Panther.

Black Panther II is coming to theatres on May 6, 2022.

Director Ryan Coogler was present at the event too. But as of yet none of the details regarding the movie plot or cast have been made clear. So we have no idea of who the villain is or even the title of the project.

Considering the release date of the film, we are thinking the movie will be a part of phase 5.

MCU phase 4 as of now consists of Black Widow and Eternals (2020); then Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten RingsDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder (2021).

Though there is no official statement as to which phase has been marked for the return of the King of Wakanda.

At D23 Marvel studios also made it clear that the Eternals cast will have Kit Harrington on board. The panelists and the audience were treated with the early looks of the stars. The audience also got another look into the world of Black Widow. Disney too showcased exclusive footages from Star Wars: Skywalker and Jungle Cruise.

As for the cast line up of the unnamed Black Panther sequel, the details of newer cast have been kept a low profile. Rumor has it that Namor the Sub-Mariner could be the upcoming villain. The status of Michael B Jordan’s involvement in the project, however, remains unclear.

There is still a long way for us to hear the Yibambe battle cries, but at least we know that the king will be back with a Fang!

Spiderman Retreats from MCU as Marvel and Sony Call Off their Agreement

by Emily Keen

News is out that Sony has called off its agreement with Marvel in response to Disney’s demands over Spiderman’s collections. Post the massive success of Spiderman: Far From Home, the news comes as a shocker. Though not for Sony as it is definitely capable of carrying forward the Franchise as it did earlier. For fans who loved Marvel’s involvement in the creative process, this comes as a disappointment.

Sony went public confirming the news on Tuesday night.

“Much of today’s news about Spider-Man has mischaracterized recent discussions about Kevin Feige’s involvement in the franchise. We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film. We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him – including all their newly added Marvel properties – do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own”. “Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.” Sony said in its statement.

The reps of Disney and Marvel were not available to clear their side of the story.

Post the split Kevin Feige, Vice President of Marvel Studios will not produce any Spiderman films. But as Sony has hinted, things may change in the future.

What exactly caused this abrupt decision?

Disney apparently insisted on a half and half agreement on co-financing the MCU Spiderman movies which Sony outwardly rejected. The Current arrangement gets Marvel a five percent of the gross box office revenue that a Spiderman movie makes. Disney’s proposal would have proved a substantial boost to MCU’s share. Sony, however, wanted things to remain as they are. Disney could not be unhappier and let the deal go void.

Disney and Sony’s talks on splitting the Spiderman profits have been in talks for months now. As a part of an update to the deal that closed in 2015, Marvel would produce the movies while Sony still owned the brand and the retained creative, distribution, financial control.

Disney’s offer of update would cover the future Spiderman movies that are currently in development. As reported by ‘Deadline’, Sony’s executives Tom Rothman and Tony Vinciquerra rejected the demands without even a counteroffer.

Sony’s decision implies it is pretty much convinced of the success of the franchise without any involvement from the mouse house or MCU. Sony’s upcoming lineup of projects is also very rich with Two Spiderman films, Venom 2, a Morbius movie and a film about Kraven the Hunter.

Marvel does not seem in the bad place either! With the recent acquisition of Fox by Disney, MCU now has access to an assortment of comics that it always wanted to bring into its universe.

The X-Men Franchise will now be under Fiege’s umbrella who also wants to pull Deadpool into the Marvel world. But will he not regret losing his favorite Spidey?

Most importantly what does this mean for the MCU fans who loved having Spiderman in their favorite verse? After having delivered high voltage romps like Endgame and Far From Home, Spiderman had become a crucial force in the MCU dynamic. Will fans be able to come to terms with the fact that the awkward and funny Peter Parker will never cross paths with other marvel heroes?

As we dig deeper, numerous questions arise and complexities seem evident.

Only time will tell the impact of the decision on the future of the Spiderman franchise.

Spiderman: Far From Home to Re-release with Extended Cut

by Emily Keen

Spiderman: Far from home will sling back to the theatres on August 29 with a full scale extended cut.

The extended version will be showcased in IMAX and other large formats in select areas. The web-slinger re-release promises four minutes of brand new action sequences that will get fans pouring in for the second time.

The sequel starring Tom Holland proved a major success on Sony’s watch. The Sony/Marvel spin-off opened locally on 2nd July and went on to be the biggest success in Sony’s 95-year-old history. It is now officially Sony’s highest-grossing exclusively owned project beating Skyfall, as ‘Deadline’ reported this morning. It is also the only non-Disney movie to hit $1B this year.

It’s been three weeks since the film smashed a record of worldwide collection and Sony decides to role the dice one last time for the Labor Day weekend.

Far from home has Spidey coming to terms with the death of his mentor while trying to stick to his old reputation of a friendly neighborhood Spiderman. It is just heartwarming to see a kid who just had a battle of universal scale coming back to his old awkward form. Just as his life is starting to spell normal another other-worldly threat looms in. And there begins a battle that will in true sense determine his worth as an avenger.

The selling point remains to be Holland’s adorable Peter Parker. Him wanting to pour his heart to his love interest (Zendaya) and then messing up his love story for his duties as a superhero is phenomenally portrayed.

With the forever likable Holland and eagle-eyed Fury watching his six, they throw in more charm with Gyllenhaal as Mysterio. He picks up the thread dropped by Tony Stark, taking up as Parker’s new mentor. What else would a winning Spiderman script look like?

And the re-release! Well, that just looks like a success party where fans get to savor up the experience with extra spice.

Idris Elba Wants to Return as Heimdall. Will It Be In ‘Thor 4’ or ‘Loki’?

by Kaylen Summers

Idris Elba is one of those actors who joined the MCU during its early days. The actor first made his appearance as Heimdall in 2011’s Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh and went on to play the role in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Elba also made a brief appearance in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and in Avengers: Infinity War- where the character met his unfortunate end in the hands of the mad titan.

Now, it seems like the actor is hoping to return back to the franchise. That’s pretty ironic coming from Elba, as the actor clearly expressed his remorse in playing the character with a wig and contact lenses for hours. He even blasted the experience in an interview from five years ago.

idris-elba-mcu-return2

However, during a recent appearance on ABC Radio that Elba was asked about his role in the MCU to this point and in the future. Though character perished in the opening scenes of Infinity War, the actor was pretty open in expressing his desire to return back to the franchise.

“Of course,” the actor said. “Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there. The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology, And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course, I would. Yes.”

Loki also died in Infinity War, but we will be seeing him in the upcoming series show on Disney+. So, as true fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we don’t mind seeing Thor’s best pal and keeper of the Bifrost back in action once again.

With that being said, the only thing left is to decide when and where we can expect Heimdall’s return. Of course, Loki’s upcoming show is a perfect place as the story is taking place on a different timeline formed as a consequence of the ‘time heist’ in Endgame.  However, it will be more sensible for the actor to be returning back in Waititi’s 2021 film, Thor: Love and Thunder. If that’s not working out with Fegie, there is also Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. Who knows. Maybe we will be seeing some ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy’ after all.

What do you think? Is there any possible way for Heimdall to return back to the MCU? Or is it the last of him? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Doctor Doom’ Script Is Ready. Noah Hawley Waiting For Feige’s Call.

by Kaylen Summers

With Disney’s $71.3 billion mergers with Fox earlier this year, the future of franchises like X-men and Fantastic Four remains in a lot of uncertainty. It’s obvious that the final decision is up to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who teased a possible reboot of Fox’s Marvel properties during the studio’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Now, Legion creator Noah Hawley reveals that Feige recently asked him if he was still working on Doctor Doom. Even though Hawley was ready to read the final script to him, Feige didn’t call him back afterward. Talking about the incident, Hawley had this to say:

“I mean, where it stands is now that the movie is done and Legion is done and I’ve taken a little time off because someone told me there was this word ‘vacation,’ which means you don’t work, which sounded really interesting to me. But you know, I need to circle back to them and announce that I would love to make it and figure out if that’s something that is possible.

“Whether or not they already have a plan in place for what to do with those characters or whether they’re open to my kind of vision for what to do with those characters. But it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air.”

In the comics, Dr. Doom is the arch-rival of the Fantastic Four. Giving supervillains their own solo movie is not something that Marvel usually do. Though Warner Bros’ DC (Suicide Squad, Joker) and Sony (Venom) have successfully attempted such runs with their baddies, we don’t think that Disney’s child-friendly approach will be happy with the idea.

Besides that, Feige’s primary focus (if he is planning on doing anything with the newly acquired properties) will most probably be on integrating X-men into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe. That sounds more practical in every sense than a standalone supervillain movie. However, let’s hope the best for Hawley to make his Doctor Doom come alive on the big screen.

Why Amanda Seyfried Turned Down To Play Gamora In Guardians Franchise?

by Kaylen Summers

After the devastating events of Avengers: Endgame, you will be a fool to not know ‘who Gamora is’. Unless of course, you are friends with this guy!

why-is-gamora

The green-skinned step-daughter of Thanos is an integral part of the MCU and one of the main members of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. With Zoe Saldana acing the role as Gamora, its obvious that Marvel did a pretty good job at casting the right person, right?! But, it now turns out that the studio had someone else in their mind before Saldana.

During a recent interview, the Mamma mia! star, Amanda Seyfried revealed that she could have been Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. The actress stated: “I turned down one [superhero role] once and they haven’t called back since. And it was a big’un. I don’t regret it because I didn’t want to be green for six months out of every year. They tell beautiful stories through superheroes, and my daughter’s now really obsessed with superheroes now, and part of me wishes I’d done it, but the other part of me is like ‘I had a life to live’ and I don’t think I would’ve been happy.”

The actress is currently promoting her new movie The Art of Racing in the Rain, which hit theaters this weekend. You can check out the full interview clip from the MTV International YouTube channel below.

Thor: Love and Thunder’s Script Is Finished. Shoots To Begin Early 2020

by Kaylen Summers

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was full of surprises and one of the most exciting news came from Marvel’s Hall H panel. Fans were thrilled to know that Thor will be getting his fourth installment, as the whole cinematic universe is moving into its phase four.

It is a known fact that the Thor movies were not fan-favorites until Taika Waititi showed up for helming Thor: Ragnarok. The director gave the character the right twist of humor and made fans want more of him. With the new movie, Waititi will be returning back to the director’s seat and we are sure that he is all set to tickle our funny bones.

Recent reports reveal that the director has already finished the script for the movie and the filming is set to begin by early next year. However, before returning back to MCU, he will be finishing off the soccer movie Next Goal Wins for Fox Searchlight. The shooting for this movie will be starting quickly and it is believed that Waititi will be diving into his MCU flick as soon as it is wrapped up.

The new Thor movie will obviously see Chris Hemsworth reprising Thor Odinson and Tessa Thompson returning as Valkyrie. But that’s not all. According to what was revealed at Comic-Con, we will also see the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who will take on the Mighty Thor mantle. For those who are into reading comics, this comes as no surprise. The idea of Jane becoming the new Thor was brought to the world first by Marvel Comics writer Jason Aaron. Now, it seems like Waititi will be taking some inspiration from that storyline.

If all goes well and the shooting starts by early 2020, we will be seeing the new female Thor on-screen in Thor: Love and Thunder by November 5, 2021.

It’s Official! Andy Serkis is Directing Venom 2

by Emily Keen

Andy Serkis will be calling the shots for the sequel to ‘Sony-MCU’s’antihero antic – Venom 2. Serkis took to his Instagram to validate the news of him stepping into the MCU film franchise as the helmer.

Venom (2018) is a ‘Sony pictures’ powered venture and a spin-off from Marvel’s Spiderman franchise. Starring Tom Hardy, the movie was poorly acclaimed for a mechanical build-up of a storyline and squeezing in untimely humor. Although critics slammed this movie left and right, nothing stopped it from bringing in a massive 856.1 million USD. Hardy’s acting chops did a major save to a sloppy script then. As for the sequel, he will be writing the script himself, in addition to starring in it.

Serkis at ‘TCA’ press tour revealed that Hardy has already begun working on the script along with screenwriter Kelly Marcel. He said, “Tom is very involved with the writing with Kelly Marcel of the new story, so it’s very much centered around their take”.

He went on to express his excitement of finally being able to work with Hardy. “I’ve known Tom for many years and I have always admired him hugely as an actor and producer. We’ve always wanted to work together directly. I am deeply excited to work with Tom Hardy and to work with all the great actors who are involved in it. It’s a fantastic franchise. I am really honored to have been asked to direct it and it feels like it’s a very contemporary story. I think it’s going to be hopefully an extraordinary piece of cinema” he added.

Hollywood is currently experiencing a trend of obsession with screenplay and writing. Studio reps gather a bunch of writers and screenwriters to pitch in ideas for a movie before they grab the best ones. This happens mostly in case of franchises.

We really can’t wait to see how the Marcel-Hardy team-up works for Venom 2. Recent reports state the deal between Serkis and Sony was closed earlier this week and the shoot shall begin by fall.

This is Serkis’ third attempt as a director, the first two being Breathe(2017) and Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle(2018). Andy Serkis is known for his legendary performance in the Lord of Rings Trilogy as Gollum. He is known as the wizard of motion-capture performance and is also incredibly CG savvy.  This is what conveniently bagged him this role as a director for Venom 2!

He got a knack of direction while sharing second unit direction role with Peter Jackson for the Hobbit trilogy. He has performances like Snoke in Star Wars and Klaw in Marvel’s Black Panther to his credits.

It is only left for us to see if his charm can turn around Venom’s dreary reputation among critics!

Sony has still not spilled the beans on the release date of Venom 2. Although there are reports of an MCU sequel hitting screens in the October of 2020! Could be the last piece of the puzzle we are looking for.

Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ Movie Will Include Multiple Widows

by Kaylen Summers

Scarlett Johansson will be reprising her iconic role as Black Widow in her upcoming highly anticipated solo flick. Set as the first movie to kickstart Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie will be a prequel taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War. However, it seems like there is a lot more to look forward to in the movie than just that.

Recently, Rachel Weisz accidentally revealed that there will be multiple Black Widow operatives introduced in the movie. “There are quite a number,” said Weisz told IGN, “I’m a Black Widow and there’s Scarlett and Florence. There’s quite a bit of other characters you’ll also meet that are Black Widows.”

The news is exciting since the makers were quite silent in the past about any details of the movie. From what we know now, it is okay to assume that the Black Widow code name will actually be shared by some of the new cast members as well. However, this is not something new.

In the comics, the Black Widow Ops Program was one of the Department X’s espionage training programs.  It plays a critical role in Natalia Romanova’s (Natasha Romanoff) life. Based at the Red Room facility, it had been a Cold War program to train the deadliest female spy in the world. It was created due to the success of their previous sleeper agent and assassin the Winter Soldier. It is obvious that the movie will be pitching on this idea, with multiple female spies trained under the program.

Black Widow will debut on May 1st, 2020. In the meantime, we hope that more details about the movie will be revealed. Stay tuned to get updated.

This Endgame Deleted Scene Will Make You Emotional All Over Again

by Kaylen Summers

Avengers Endgame marked the end for one of the most epic cinematic saga in movie history. The death Tony Stark towards the end of the movie left us with teary eyes. However, months after Avengers: Endgame, a new exclusive deleted scene from the film was unveiled online and MCU fans may need some more tissues.

The clip shows the heartbreaking moment when Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man/Tony Stark sacrifices his life to save the universe on the battlefield. Instead of the scene fading into black, as shown in the theatrical release, the Avengers are seen paying a touching tribute to Iron Man.

Pepper Potts gives Tony Stark a final kiss as the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes slowly dropping to one knee in honor of the fallen Avenger. Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is the first to kneel and bow his head. Soon, one after the other, Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Nebula (Karen Gillian), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) kneel down in front of the fallen hero.

Though the scene does not appear to be completely finished in terms of CGI, an extra minute of footage would have been a worthy addition to the Avengers: Endgame rerelease a few weeks ago and MCU fans would probably have responded to it better. Whatever the case may be, the rerelease did help the movie become the highest-grossing movie of all time, beating out James Cameron’s Avatar.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained in an email about why they excluded the moment: “It’s a beautiful scene with moving performances, but we filmed it prior to Tony Stark’s funeral. The funeral scene ultimately became a more resonant and emotional reflection on Tony’s death for us.”

What do you think about the deleted scene? Watch the clip and let us know:

Scarlett Johansson Claims ‘Black Widow’ Belongs To Its Own Genre

by Kaylen Summers

When Scarlett Johanson’s character was killed off in the events of Avengers Endgame, fans had a hard time saying goodbye to the character. However, Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, promised that  Black Window would return to MCU again- that too in her standalone movie. Though there were many reports and set photos indicating that the production for the movie was moving full-fledged, it was finally at their Comic-Con panel that Marvel Studios officially announced the Black Widow movie.

Scarlett Johansson debuted as Black Widow back in 2010’s Iron Man 2. The actress quickly capturing the attention of audiences and ever since, fans were desperate to see the hero in her own film.  When Marvel confirmed that such a film is about to happen, there were many rumors that the events of the movie could be taking place before her MCU debut. However, these speculations where debunked officially and we now know that her standalone movie is set as a prequel that takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War.

black-widow

During an interview with MTV at Comic-Con,  Johansson explained that the film’s unique blend of influences will make it feel like its own unique genre. “It’s pretty gritty, but it’s also surprising…it’s kind of in its own genre, I think. Some of the movies that we talked about, we talked about The Fugitive, we talked about Logan, we talked about Terminator 2”, she said.

The actress revealed that before she signed on to the project, she made sure that the character was the same as we had previously seen her in the MCU. Johansson didn’t want the standalone movie to change who Natasha Romanoff has been for all of these years.

Fans are already looking forward to the Black Widow movie as it will be the first MCU Phase 4 movie to hit theaters. The movie may be a prequel. But still, it might have hints or hidden easter eggs on where Marvel will be taking their cinematic universe next. Whatever the case may be, it’s going to be very interesting to see how the movie is accepted when it hits theaters next November.

Doctor Strange 2 Will Be MCU’s First Horror Movie

by Kaylen Summers

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 saw many big reveals. But the most awaited one was from the Hall H panel of Marvel Studios. With the Infinity Saga concluded with Spiderman: Far From Home, it is obvious that everyone is a little too much curious about what to expect next. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long, as Kevin Feige announced the new slate for upcoming Marvel movies.

Among the big reveals we got the confirmation about the next big-screen adventure of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange. Titled Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the movie will also feature Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch as a key supporting character. Feige also confirmed that the movie will have a more horror-centric feel.

Fans who are already aware of director Scott Derrickson’s previous works will easily understand that prior to his MCU debut, almost all of his movies were focused on horror aspects. With the director returning back to his tonal realm, we are surely in for some pretty scary moments.

Scott-Derrickson-Benedict-Cumberbatch

Addressing the Comic-Con crowd, he explained: “When I came and talked to [Kevin Feige] about doing a sequel, I said, ‘I don’t want to do just another sequel. If I’m going to do it, it needs to go into the territory that drew me into the Doctor Strange comics in the first place’ – which is how they dipped into the gothic and the horror and the horrific. And we’re going to make the first scary MCU movie.”

However, there was no information dropped on who will be the villain(s) for the new movie. Will Marvel be going dark like DC?! Don’t get too excited! Derrickson can bring all of Marvel Comics’ freakiest threats onscreen. But, the studio will be overviewing the production to make sure that the movie will be rated PG-13. Talk about mood-killing!!

Scarlet Witch will be a surprise mix with Strange. Fans are already wondering how two characters will be getting alone together onscreen since not much about her role in the upcoming movie is revealed yet. But, we will be seeing the Wanda in the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision before the sequel. The series will be hitting the streaming service in the spring of 2021 and will tie in directly with the events of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. This will be a massive shift for Marvel’s shows as they were not previously connected to the bigger cinematic universe.

Will Millie Bobby Be Starring In Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’?

by Kaylen Summers

Netflix’s Stranger Things is making quite a buzz with the release of its third season last week.  However, that’s not the only buzz that circulates around Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown. Reports say that the 15-year-old superstar is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for upcoming The Eternals movie. Since there hasn’t been any official confirmation, it is obvious to take the news with a grain of salt.

Eternals are a group of immortal ancient aliens offshoots created by Jack Kirby. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe has finished its third phase, the multi-billion dollar franchise is keeping its possibilities for Phase 4, and most probably it will be kickstarting the new phase with The Eternals. The movie is said to be directed by Chloé Zhao, starring Keanu Reeves, Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Richard Maddenand, and Salma Hayek.

Earlier this year Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige told Collider about the possibility of the movie:

“Eternals are one group, but we like the idea of introducing an ensemble, doing an ensemble movie from the start, as opposed to building up as we did with the first Avengers. More like Guardians, not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people.

“You were asking about ’60s, and ’70s before. Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with Eternals that spans tens of thousands of years, and that’s also something we haven’t really done, which is why that among many other things post-Endgame, we find appealing.”

If the Stranger Things star is joining the movie, then Marvel will have a solid cast moving forward into Phase 4.

7 Spider-man Movie Performances That Sucked

by Kaylen Summers

There is no doubt that Spider-man is phenomenally popular with its comic-books and animated shows. However, when it comes to movies, Hollywood has a way of screwing things up for the friendly neighborhood Spider-man. From poor character casting to weak plot points, the modern Spiderman cinematic franchise has seen it all. If that was not enough, the frequent reboots did its share of damage until Marvel finally took over. But, some worse performances are still worth mentioning. Here are the top  7 of those Spider-man movie performances that sucked.

7. Chris Zylka – Flash Thompson

flash-the-amazing-spiderman

This empty-headed, tight-shirted jock played by Chris Zylka was meant as an antithesis to show Peter what he shouldn’t become.  But the model-turned-actor was not able to bring any nuance to the character other than being just a teenage bully. Considering what the MCU is doing with their version of the character, it is definitely on the makers part that they were not able to bring depth to the character. As a result, the character ended up as just another forgettable part of a forgettable reboot.

6. Paul Giamatti- Aleksei Sytsevich/Rhino

rhino

It seems like everything associated with The Amazing Spiderman is disappointing. From tons of CGI to a very little screen-time, Giamatti didn’t even get a chance to bring the character to life. The whole character design was underdeveloped and so weak that it was never enough to establish the character. Though the filmmakers may have had intentions to develop the character further in the sequel, it was canceled, and we were left with a awful performance.

5. Topher Grace – Eddie Brock/Venom

Topher Grace - Eddie Brock-Venom

Well, what happened to Topher Grace was something not entirely his fault. He was let down by his director who didn’t really want him and a studio desperate to get his character in there no matter what. The result was the most notorious missteps in comic-book movie history presented before a bunch of fans who were so eager to see venom for the first time on screen. The rest is history.

4.Bryce Dallas Howard – Gwen Stacy

Gwen

The one good thing about The Amazing Spiderman is how it gave us the most successful movie representation of Gwen Stacy. Emma Stone rocked as the character, giving us some heart touching moments in the end. However, there was this earlier version of Gwen that we don’t even remember anymore. The character played by Bryce Dallas Howard was forced to spend screentime opposite Tobey Maguire and it ended up as forgettable for the audience.

3. James Franco – Harry Osborn

James Franco - Harry Osborn

James Franco is never a bad actor. He had given a broad spectrum of performances very different roles in the past few years. But, the actor had a tough time playing the underdeveloped screen version of Harry Osborn in Raimi’s Spider-man. Just when you thought that the character was getting the arc it deserved, the makers forcefully push him into becoming the next Globin -that too in an already busy movie.

2. Dane DeHaan – Harry Osborn

Dane-Dehaan -Osborn

It’s Harry Osborn again and this time its Dane DeHaan playing the iconic character/villain. The flaws in the character design were too recognizable for everyone. The narrative set for the character was serious. However, the character and his transformation into Green-Goblin appeared very comical. Add that to the out-of-place acting by the actor and it gave us a lame performance in total.

1. Jamie Foxx – Electro

Jamie Foxx - Electro

Everyone will admit that Jamie Foxx was never a good casting decision to play Electro. It is obvious that the makers of The Amazing Spiderman movies were desperate to bring in new characters to the screen. But, the rush took the best of them as they had a really awful script and poor character design. Jamie Foxx cast as electro is a perfect example for this. The character was written so poorly that even his transition into supervillainy makes no sense at all.

Weekend performance: Solo Falls Short of Even the Lowest Expectations

by Utkarsh Bansal

What did people see?

The decision to make a Han Solo prequel was always a questionable one, and Ron Howard stepping in to finish a movie started by Phil Lord and Chris Miller did not help get people on board. Over these last few months of trailers and spots, I’ve asked some of the biggest Star Wars fans I know whether they’re excited about Solo, and have received a few different variations of “meh” in response. The unenthusiastic critical and audience response cemented it. As it stands, more than half of these friends of mine have not seen the movie yet, and will probably wait until they can stream it on Netflix. The theatre I watched it in had somewhere between 10 and 15 people, and that was opening day.

And in spite of all that, I was convinced that the Star Wars brand name alone would push Solo: A Star Wars Story past a 100 million opening weekend. But in a disappointment reminiscent of last year’s Justice League, the movie ended up with 84.42 domestically. Internationally, it fared even worse, which is less surprising. Star Wars was an American cultural phenomenon, unlike, say, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is more global in its appeal.

Speaking of which, Avengers: Infinity War only dropped 41.3% this weekend, a significantly smaller drop than had been expected for a long time. Deadpool 2 took a bigger hit, making 65.4% less than its opening weekend haul. It has now almost crossed half a billion worldwide, while Infinity War is fast approaching the 2 billion mark.

What did people like?

The weekend’s only notable release was Solo: A Star Wars Story, which has a Metascore of 62. On Rotten Tomatoes, 70% of critics gave it a positive review. The critics consensus reads: “A flawed yet fun and fast-paced space adventure, Solo: A Star Wars Story should satisfy newcomers to the saga as well as longtime fans who check their expectations at the theater door.”

With a mildly positive CinemaScore of A-, it appears that general audiences agree with that sentiment. For context, the last 3 Star Wars movies, The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi each got an A, while the 3 prequels shared Solo’s grade of A-. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, only 4 out of their 19 movies have CinemaScores A- or lower. Over at Pixar, Cars 2 is the only one of their 19 films to stumble down to that score. From every direction, critical, public, and box office, the message is clear: Star Wars can do better.
