Fast And Furious 9 Tapped Rapper Cardi B

by Emily Keen

Fast and Furious 9 has been making waves with it’s casting news lately. No very late after the news of Keanu Reeves possibly becoming a part of the Franchise future rolled out, they are ready with the next blow.

Cardi B has been signed for an unknown role in the upcoming installment of the fast-cars feature. The Fast and Furious frontman Vin Diesel dropped a clip of him and Cardi B acknowledging their last day of shooting in the UK.

In the video, Cardi B is seated next to Diesel, while he tells us that the entire cast has given the film everything. The Emmy winning rapper shares the feeling, declaring this film would be the best one of all the others in the franchise.

The news of Cardi being a part of Fast 9 comes on the final day of their UK shoot. Which means the queen of rap had been onboard for quite some time now. Looks like Diesel is hell-bent on not letting the hype die down. He kept it in the hopper and dropped the news yesterday as the film is nearing wrap. Cardi B recently sizzled alongside Jennifer Lopez in the hit stripper crime thriller Hustlers.

Many popular names have joined the cast in unknown roles including John Cena, Finn Cole and now Cardi. Reggaeton artist Ozuna will also be a part of this hot lineup. Ozuna and Cardi have previously worked together for the hit DJ Snake Song and its music video- Taki Taki.

Besides the new joiners, we have familiar faces making returns. Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, Chris Bridges (aka Ludacris), Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron will be reprising their roles along with Vin Diesel.

The ninth film of the series is being directed by Justin Lin who had also helmed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth films of the saga. The film will open in theatres on May 22, 2020.

Sequel Confirmed: ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Makes $700M At The Box Office.

by Kaylen Summers

It’s official! Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw from Universal has zoomed past the $700 million milestone in the global box office. The running total includes $175 million from Chinese and a $160 million from North American box offices.

Released as this year’s summer tentpole, the flick is the ninth title in the Fast & Furious universe. The spin-off has Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw as the lead characters.

Unlike other Fast and Furious movies, Hobbs & Shaw do not have franchise stalwart Vin Diesel in his iconic Dominic Toretto role. However, the movie is star-studded with actors like Idris Elba playing the genetically enhanced villain, and Helen Mirren returning to portray the mother of Statham’s Shaw. The movie is directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) and scripted by franchise vets Chris Morgan and Drew Pearce.

Although It: Chapter Two releasing this weekend may affect the movie, there is still chance for it to make it past the $164 million domestic total of Ice Age: Continental Drift and the $166 million domestic total of Roland Emmerich’s 2012.

However, crossing box office milestones are not new for the Fast & Furious movies. After Fast Five, the franchise exploded making massive box office draw in overseas markets. The movie franchise has grown into one of the most bankable franchises around, which is not owned by Disney.

Hobbs & Shaw has now made it to the fourth highest-grossing flick in the overall franchise following Fast & Furious 6 ($788.7 million), The Fate of the Furious ($1.23 billion) and Furious 7 ($1.51 billion). This inevitably means that the studio will be attempting for a Hobbs & Shaw 2, or whatever the studio wants to call it. Additionally, this also provides an opportunity for the further expansion of the ‘Fast universe’. Vin Diesel has already teased a possible female-led spin-off. With this movie’s success, Universal can explore such further opportunities for installments outside of the main series with confidence.

However, what comes next up for the franchise will be Fast & Furious 9, which is currently in production. The movie will see Justin Lin, who helmed four prior installments, returning to the director’s seat. The studio is also planning for a tenth movie in the main series as well.

Charlize Theron’s Cipher Gets A New Look For Fast & Furious 9

by Kaylen Summers

The villainous Cipher is returning back to the Fast and Furious universe and this time she is going to have a new look. Actress Charlize Theron who was introduced into the franchise in 2017’s the Fate of the Furious, has confirmed that she will be returning in Fast & Furious 9. Though there were numerous reports on the Oscar-winner’s second trip to the franchise, none were officially confirmed till now.

Cipher is a cyber-criminal mastermind who blackmailed Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) to do her bidding by keeping his old flame Elena Neves (Elsa Pataky) and their infant son hostage. When Dom disobeyed one of her orders, she even kills Elena in front of him as a punishment. Though Dom and his team eventually get the upper-hand on her, Cipher evades capture and flees.

With the inevitable showdown between Dom and Cipher still waiting, her return to the new installment is making us a little anxious about what to expect. Whatever the case may be, Theron is porting her new looks and we are literally blown away by it.

She’s baaaaack #Fast9

A post shared by Charlize Theron (@charlizeafrica) on

The actress is donning the short razor-sharp new haircut, replacing the longer hairstyle she had in her first Fast & Furious movie. While she had a blond look then, her new look features a mix of black and blonde.

Initially, it was rumored that Cipher would be returning on Dwayne Johnson-led spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Speculations were that the character was going to be revealed as The Director of the sinister organization Eteon in Hobbs & Shaw. Though there’s no official evidence to suggest that such a plan was considered, it is believed that the plan was eventually dropped. Either way, we will be seeing Theron back in action soon for Fast & Furious 9.

The ninth installment will also see the return of director Justin Lin, who directed the third, fourth, fifth and sixth entries in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Fast & Furious 9 is expected to release on May 22, 2020.

New Set Photo From Fast & Furious 9 Teases The Return of Paul Walker’s Brian

by Kaylen Summers

Anybody who has seen the Fast and Furious movies would know how much the actors care for their friends both on-screen and off-screen. Over the years, each installment from the franchise had brought the crew closer and closer just as ‘the family’ they portray on-screen. However, the untimely death of Paul Walker was a shock for both them and the fans.

The actor died in November 2013 at age 40 during the shooting of Fast & Furious 7. The brothers Caleb and Cody Walker stood in for Paul and helped complete the movie with the help of some CGI. The movie’s climax with Brian O’Connor driving off into the sunset paid homage to the actor and the legacy he left behind. Even though we didn’t see Brian in The Fate of the Furious, both Caleb and Cody Walker had made it clear that they have no problem standing in for Brian in the future.

With that being said, a recent pic posted on Instagram by Diesel revealed him and Cody Walker hanging out on the set of Fast and Furious 9. This has made many fans speculate that we will be seeing Walker again on-screen as Brian.

Diesel had this to say in his post: “There is something special that happens every time Cody comes to visit production… Always making Pablo proud! All love, always. .”

It is not confirmed whether Walker’s younger brother was there to film something or not. But, we really hope that director Justin Lin has a surprise in store for us.

There is also another reason to speculate so.  Jordana Brewster, who plays Dom’s sister and Brian’s wife will be reprising her role. So the chances of at least having Brian appear briefly on screen is pretty high, even if he’s not directly involved in the main plot.

Other returning casts include Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson, with John Cena joining the cast as well. The latest addition to the franchise is Michael Rooker who recently signed on for a role yet to be revealed. With their recent spinoff movie, Hobbs & Shaw in theatres, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham are reported to sit this one out.

Fast & Furious 9 is set to release on May 22, 2020, with Justin Lin returning to the director’s chair. The script is penned by series newcomer Dan Casey. If you are looking for more updates about the movie and more, do follow our website for some exclusive Fast and Furious content.

Michael Rooker is the latest addition to Fast and Furious 9

by Emily Keen

Guardians of Galaxy fame Michael Rooker is officially on board for Fast and Furious 9.

The sizzling line up made of Vin Diesel, Charlize Theron, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, and Helen Mirren will now be joined by Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, and Vinnie Bennett.

Rooker who played Yondu (Peter Quill’s mentor) in the Guardians of Galaxy, landed the role of Buddy in the ninth sequel of The Fast and Furious series. His addition to the roster was confirmed by ‘Deadline’.

Yondu’s character dies at the end of the second volume of the Guardians of the Galaxy while saving Peter Quill. Superhero movies are known for invariably scheming resurrections, but that won’t happen to Yondu. Director James Gunn made it pretty clear that he had no plans of bringing Rooker’s character back to life in Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3.

With the production kicked off in June 2019, not many details of Fast and Furious 9 are known yet. Justin Lin is back at the helm after having amazingly delivered the pitches of third through sixth parts of the franchise. The script is penned by Daniel Casey.

Rooker already has Harold Becker’s Sea of Love, Tony Scott’s Days of Thunder, Alan Parker’s Mississippi Burning and Oliver Stone’s JFK to his credits. The year 2020 seems quite overwhelming for Rooker who will also star in Amazon’s The Dark Tower pilot. His imminent projects for the year include Fantasy Island releasing on February 28 and Monster Problems on March 6.

Fast and Furious 9 will be hitting the screens on May 22, 2020. Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham will not be a part of the film thanks to their commitments to Hobbs and Shaw. But it would be interesting to watch where the script goes with Rooker’s coming in. Also for fans who crept out thinking this could be a wrap, be assured that the tenth installment is already in place with April 2021 locked in for release.

‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Writer Promises Justice For Han

by Kaylen Summers

For Fast & Furious fans, Han is not someone who can easily be forgotten. During the events of the third film in the franchise, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, the character played by Sung Kang was killed off.

The character became a fan-favorite that the makers of the franchise made him stick around by setting the subsequent films prior to those events. But the timeline finally caught up to Tokyo Drift at the end of Fast & Furious 6. Han dies in the movie in a terrible car crash and it was finally revealed that Deckard Shaw is the one who is responsible for Han’s death, as retribution for his brother Owen (Luke Evans). This made him the most personal villain yet for Furious Seven.

However, in the upcoming spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs has to form an unlikely alliance with Jason Statham’s villain Shaw, leading the character to have a redemption story. It is obvious that the character will soon become part of the “family” as well. Unfortunately, some fans are not so willing to forgive Shaw for murdering their favorite character. They soon started the “Justice for Han” campaign online and it seems like makers are also aware of it too.

“I love ‘justice for Han’. Sung Kang is a great friend, and Han is a character that I adore”, says the Fast & Furious writer, Chris Morgan, “I would say that the super-arc for Deckard Shaw is going to be one of the most interesting, cool, rewarding character arcs in the franchise. Justice for Han is owed. It’s something we have discussed for a very long time and want to give the right due to. I think the audience will be satisfied and should know it’s coming. There’s a line in Hobbs & Shaw that is right before the battle in Samoa where Shaw says to his sister, ‘There’s things I’ve done that I have to make amends for.’ That line was specifically written and put in there just to let everyone know that he is talking about Han, it is on his mind. It tortures him, and he’s going to get to it.”

The ninth installment of the franchise is already underway, with Justin Lin back in the director’s chair. But, it doesn’t seem like Deckard Shaw will be back for this one. With the writer promising a satisfying arc, we hope that a Fast & Furious 10 will have answers for our questions.

[UPDATED] Fast And Furious 9 Cast List

by Kaylen Summers

The Fast and Furious franchise is returning this year with a spin-off movie featuring Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. Titled as Fast and Furious presents: Hobbs & Shaw, we still haven’t gotten a confirmation that the plot of the story will be tying up to the story of the main franchise. For that, we need to wait a little further for the upcoming installment of the franchise, Fast and Furious 9.  The movie has already started production, and if all goes well, it will be hitting theatres in less than a year.

The movie is less likely to have Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, as they were busy with their own movie. However, brief cameos are expected. Whatever the case may be, there is a solid line-up awaiting for fans, according to what’s been announced so far. Let take a look under the hood then:

Vin Diesel

There is no Fast and Furious with Vin Diesel. The actor has been in all the Fast and Furious movies except of course 2 Fast 2 Furious (and most probably Hobbs & Shaw). With Dominic realizing that he has a Son, the events of the next movie are more likely to be on the emotional side of the character.

Michelle Rodriguezmichelle ff9

Though she stared in not as many movies in the franchise as Vin Diesel, she can be considered as the second most important character and the main female lead. Bringing to life the character of Letty Ortiz, Rodriguez will be a part of the upcoming movie and also, reportedly, in talks for an all women spin-off in the near future.

Tyrese Gibson

First making his appearance in 2 Fast 2 Furious, the character of Roman Pearce is more like the comic relief to the franchise. But don’t underestimate him- for he is known for both his driving skills and his ability to talk his way through anything. With the recent feud between Tyrese and Dwayne Johnson still lingering in the air, it will be a relief for him that he won’t be sharing the screen with Johnson in the new movie.

ludacris ff9

Starting off as a small-time street racer in Miami, Tej Parker is now part of the ‘family’ as he provides them with all the new tech they need for their missions. Hopefully, the actor will be continuing his duties to the ‘family’ in Fast and Furious 9 as well.

Nathalie Emmanuel

Joining the franchise in Furious 7, Ramsey is the newest member to join the crew. The character was rescued from the villains who kidnapped her because she created God’s Eye. Ramsey is now using her hacking skills to help the team in their missions, though we still don’t know much about her past.

Jordana Brewster

Jordana Brewster ff9

One of the most unexpected castings in Fast and Furious 9 is that of Jordana Brewster. With Brian O’Connor leaving behind his crew to focus more on raising his kids, Furious 7 gives an honorable farewell to the late actor Paul Walker. However, with Mia Toretto returning, fans have their fingers crossed for a special cameo from Brian O’Connor (of course with the help of Paul’s brothers and some nifty CGI).

John Cena

john cena ff9

John Cena is focusing more on his acting career recently, being part of huge franchises like Transformers. However, no details about his addition to the Fast and Furious franchise is revealed. All fans got was the reveal that his character is going to be “badass”.

Finn Cole

Finn Cole ff9

Similar to John Cena’s character no information about Finn Cole’s role in the movie is revealed yet. Cole is known for his television roles including Michael Gray in Peaky Blinders and Joshua Cody in Animal Kingdom.

Anna Sawai

Anna Sawai ff9

Anna Sawai is not that much of a famous star when compared to the others. Fans might recognize her for her brief appearance in 2009’s Ninja Assassin and BBC Two/Netflix drama Giri/Haji. Let’s hope that Fast and Furious 9 will give her the break she deserves.

More cast will be announced soon, and we will be keeping this list updated. Feel free to come back and check it out.
