5 things You Did Not Know About the Dark Knight Trilogy

by Emily Keen

Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher’s version of Batman did not make quite the buzz and crash-landed flat at the box office. Christopher Nolan’s Batman begins, however, was a gleaming success that kick-started a regime of an undying fervour for the Bat and that was it. The Dark knight trilogy remains to be one of the greatest version of the adaptation of the caped crusader on screen. Even with a sombre undertone, the film managed to bring entertainment to the table. It was Nolan’s genius that the character was revived in a resplendent fashion.

In a way, DC owes it to Nolan and in all fondness to Christian Bale that to get the Batman back in the game after Schumacher’s rendition failed miserably in 1997.

Here are 5 things you may have never heard of the greatest Trilogy ever made:

  1. Christian Bale Fell Asleep during filming.

Christian Bale himself agreed to have slumbered in the middle of a shot. While shooting for the scene where he just dozed off and never heard the word action. He said, “In Batman Begins, in the first scene I had with Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, I fell asleep. In the scene, I was meant to be waking up, so I laid down and just fell asleep. And I didn’t hear ‘Action.'”

“In the scene, I was meant to be waking up, so I laid down and just fell asleep. And I didn’t hear ‘Action.'” He continued. – “I woke up with Michael Caine poking me in the ribs and going, ‘Look at that! He’s bloody fallen asleep, isn’t he? He’s bloody fallen asleep!’”

  1. The subtle hints in Nolan’s creations

Jim Gordon’s daughter was named Barbara Gordon in the trilogy.  Coleman Reese who had mysterious connections with the Riddler was addressed as Mr Reese in the 2008 film. That phonetically sounds like Mysteries

“They asked me if he [Jim Gordon] saw any giant alligators.” cops implicitly referring to Killer croc when John Blake warns them about Bane taking refuge in the city.

The character arc of Roland Dagget, who appears in the animated series, is altered in TDKR and his name is changed to John. Selina Kyle’s roommate Jen is actually representing Holly Robinson from the comic who was a hooker and trainer with the catwoman.

  1. Nolan’s gritty narrative changed the game

Batman’s character lost its charm with Batman and Robin (1997). As mentioned earlier, the film turned out to be a complete disaster owing to which the makers had to halt the fifth instalment which was called Batman Triumphant.  Nolan in all his capacity, breathed a new life into the story with his realistic approach as opposed to the theatrical entries staged in Schumacher’s films. Nolan stayed true to the essence of the character as described in the comics and that went to gather the attention of a whole new faction of the audience.

  1. The Boy Wonder – Robin

Robin’s arc was never meant to fly in Nolan films. But he did decide to give the character a role in his narrative. Not as a direct sidekick of Batman but as an assistant to detective James Gordon. He fully re-moulded the character to give him detective abilities instead of gymnastics.

  1. The Movies were a mix of different comics

Christopher Nolan’s obsession with the Batman story began with Richard Donner’s Superman (1978). “What I loved about Superman was the way New York felt like New York, or rather Metropolis felt like New York. Metropolis felt like a city you could recognize — and then there was this guy flying through the streets.” Nolan said.

Batman Begins (2005) drew major inspiration from Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One (1987), Blind Justice (1989), and The Man Who Falls (1989). The Dark Knight (2008) plotline was the amalgamation of Batman #1 (1940), Batman #251 (1973), The Killing Joke (1988) and The Long Halloween (1996-1997). The Dark Knight Rises (2012) was the closest to Knightfall (1993). It also picked up a few elements from No Man’s Land (1999-2000) and The Cult (1988). Anne Hathaway’s Selina Kyle in TDKR was inspired by Catwoman: The Dark End of the Street (2001-2002)

[Crazy Fan Theory] Did Batman die in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?!

by Emily Keen

There is a section of fans that suspect that Bruce Wayne actually died at the end of The Dark Knight Rises. What immediately comes to mind is, what about the scene where Bruce is seen enjoying a coffee with Selina Kyle? Well, they call it Alfred’s fantasy which is born out of guilt that he walked out on his master Bruce when he needed him the most.

These lines said by Alfred in the move might help put things in perspective

“Every year, I took a holiday. I went to Florence, there’s this cafe, on the banks of the Arno. Every fine evening, I’d sit there and order a Fernet Branca. I had this fantasy, that I would look across the tables and I’d see you there… You wouldn’t say anything to me, nor me to you. But we’d both know that you’d made it, that you were happy.”

Could it be possible? Christopher Nolan’s films are anything but straightforward. So we cannot totally dismiss the probability of it being true.

Let’s examine the facts, shall we?

We saw “The Bat” explode over the ocean and it was an Atomic Bomb if you will. There is hardly any chance of a human surviving an explosion of those proportions. Even if he does, he’d at least undergo a mutation from all the radiations.

There is absolutely no scene where it was indicated that Batman might have had a chance to dodge the blast.

But what about Alfred? Is he really hallucinating?

After all the love he had for the master and the fact that he was not there to support him in his tough days would obviously lead us to believe that Alfred is hurt and broken beyond measure and only projects that image of a happy Bruce to put his misery to rest.

What do you guys thin? Do let us know in the comments.

7 Best Superhero Movies Of The Decade

by Kaylen Summers

There is no doubt that the decade saw the progressive evolution of superhero movies as a genre. With more great actors putting on the superhero persona and more brilliant directors working on these movies, there is no time to watch these marvels (no pun intended!) than now.

From a decade filled with so many awesome superheroes, we have picked up 7 movies that are sure to entertain you and make you crave for more.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Any list about the genre will not be complete without mentioning Nolan’s Batman Trilogy. Since, we need to include more movies, we are mentioning only the best one from the three (though all three are brilliant). In the Dark Knight, Batman is up against his nemesis Bane- a rising terrorist mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham by unleashing a reign of chaos.

Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool made comic-book movies stretch even further with its R-rated cockiness. The movie is about the origin of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson.  After being subjected to a rogue experiment,  he is  left with accelerated healing powers. With his newly gained superpowers, he adopts the alter ego Deadpool to find and kill the man who destroyed his life.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

This is where it all began. Ironman was not that popular when compared to other superheroes like Batman and Spiderman. But, this movie turned everything upside down and made him into a pop culture icon. It also set in motion one of the biggest and most popular cinematic franchises available today.

The Avengers (2012)

Ironman was only the starting point. The great ambition was to bring together a number of superheroes from different movies into a huge crossover movie. And the world saw it happen with The Avengers. It is Nick Fury, director of the  S.H.I.E.L.D., who finds the need of a team to help save the world from a huge disaster. Thus began the Avenger initiative.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

What started with The Avengers finally came to an end a decade later with Endgame. The movie picks up after the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos has accomplished his plans and half of the universe is now gone. Now, what is remaining of the Avengers must assemble once more to somehow undo Thanos’ actions and make the universe return to its original state.

Aquaman (2018)

We all know how DC’s attempts to build a coherent universe has gone through the ages. However, we can proudly say that movies like Aquaman and Wonderwoman are surely the best from DC to date. Aquaman tells the story about Atlantis, an underwater kingdom that once was home to the most advanced civilization on Earth. Now, it is ruled by the power-hungry King Orm with an enormous army at his disposal.  As the mad king is planning to conquer the remaining oceanic people and then the surface world, it is up to Arthur Curry aka Aquaman to stop him and take his rights to the throne.

Black Panther (2018)

There is a huge criticism that Marvel movies lack strong content. But, Black Panther perhaps a strong narrative and subtle messages than any other Marvel movie. King T’Challa is ruler of the reclusive, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda. As he is chosen to become the new leader of the nation. However, he is challenged for the throne by an old unexpected member of his own family. Now, he must stop him to prevent Wakanda from starting a world war.

Jeffrey Wright confirmed in the role of Batman’s GCPD Ally

by Emily Keen

The Batman director has spilled the beans on the actor’s identity set to don Commissioner Gordon. Jeffrey Wright is now confirmed for the role of the caped crusader’s ally from the police department.

The rumors of Wright playing Gordon have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. Although the Westworld actor’s onboarding was not verified by any of the makers or the directors until yesterday.

The Cloverfield director took to his tweeter account to introduce Wright as Gordon.

The tweet did not say much. He merely wrote the word Tweet!  And Gordon with a hashtag followed by a bat emoji. So there you go. You know who the head of the Gotham city Police Department is.

The Batman’s casting is still an ongoing affair or at least it seems so since there is not much confirmation on the finalizing of many characters. For now, all we know is that Twilight star Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz has been tapped in as Catwoman, Paul Dano will don The Riddler and now it’s Wright in the skin of James Gordon.

Jonah Hill has reportedly walked away from the role of Oswald ‘Penguin’ Cobblepot which led to Jason Alexander volunteering to play the role. Although it does not seem that Reeves has accepted the Seinfeld actor’s offer.

The Batman, as far as we know, follows the life of young Bruce Wayne and the plot will be somewhere along the lines of Bruce Wayne trying to track a serial killer in Gotham City, keeping suspicious of almost every supervillain in the comic. But the makers were upright in stating that the film is a standalone affair and has no connections with the DCEU whatsoever.

DC movies do not have a great reputation of standing tall at the Box Office with a shared universe. On the other hand, individual ventures tend to perform a great deal. It worked for Joker. Might as well turn out the same way for the masked vigilante’s latest.

The film has locked June 25, 2021, for release. Its currently under the pre-production phase and hopefully we will have news on more castings rolling out soon.

Stay tuned to Spotflik for more details on the film.

Joker Takes Over Maleficient’s Collections, Back to Being No. 1

by Emily Keen

Arthur Fleck’s contagious laugh does not seem to be dying any sooner. Joaquin Phoenix’s magnum Opus now stands strong with a global collection of $849 million. The DC movie has toppled Angelina Jolie’s fantasy fiction once again to reclaim it’s top spot this weekend.

According to ‘Deadline’ the Todd Phillip’s Joker rolled in a $18.9 million where as the Disney film brought in $18.5 million. The numbers are close but the fact that Joker has been it its fifth week of release speaks for itself. In the last week, Maleficient 2 brought down the highly acclaimed Phoenix starrer with the collection of $36.9 million. Joker in that weekend stood at $29 Million.

Maleficient: Mistress of Evil’s global earnings as of now are $293.5 million.

This weekend was rather peaceful with studios slowing down releases for the onset of Halloween. In the third place, stood Addams Family with $11.7 million edging out Zombieland: Double Tap which brought in $11.6 million.

Joker’s list of accolades could already bind a compendium and it has them coming. The movie has now officially surpassed Deadpool’s record as the highest grossing R-rated movie. The Ryan Reynold’s film stood at $782.6 million.

Terminator: Dark Fate debuted in cinemas this weekend and made $12.8 million. The numbers might have been a tad disappointing given the hype around the Linda Hamilton starrer. But the movie might soon catch up as there are Holidays coming up in the keys markets of release.

As for Joker, it is still running strong in Europe. This weekend added $47.8 million to Jokers collections from 79 overseas markets. The film is now looking forward to a $950 million worldwide collection.

Dwayne Johnson is Finally Ready to Don Black Adam

by Emily Keen

Dwayne Johnson is finally ready to break the ice around his dormant DC project. Black Adam, the arch-nemesis to Shazam! is finally happening. The project that has been in talks for over a decade, is ready to begin production in July next year.

Beau Flynn of FlynnPictureCo has stepped in to produce the film alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions.

Johnson took to his Twitter to confirm the production by reposting an image of a fan-made sculpture of the antihero.

After the huge success of Shazam! the makers are already working on a sequel. Black Adam was earlier set to appear in the movie. But looking at the rich history of the character, the makers decided to give the villain a feature of his own.

The gestating project will be helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The director has already worked with Johnson on the upcoming Disney flick, Jungle Cruise.

Dwayne Johnson was approached for the role of Shazam! but he chose Teth-Adam intrigued by the transformation curve of the character. He said he found it interesting how the character goes on to become a villain from a slave and then an antihero.

The Shazam! movie has equally had its share of delays and conflicts.

The movie had kicked up in the pre-production phase in 2008 at New Line Cinema. But as soon as the studio was acquired by Warner Bros. the project had to be shelved. As a part of the old plan, Peter Segal was tapped in to direct the movie with a script from John August.

August left the project over creative differences with the studio. Apparently the studio wanted more intensity to Shazam post the success of The Dark Knight. The draft prepared for Shazam was more on a comical and light-hearted side.

Meanwhile, another team of scriptwriters tried their luck with Shazam’s script. Bill Burch and Geoff Johns too tried making progress but apparently did not think that Johnson will stick around with the script being constantly altered.

Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel released in 2013. Segal stated that a Kibosh was put on Shazam! owing to the superhero’s similarities with Superman.

In August 2014 the movie was back in talks and Dwayne Johnson confirmed he was still a part of it. Later that year in September, he finally settled his choice of character with Black Adams – the modern antihero version. In 2017 David F. Sandberg stepped on board as the director of Shazam!

By the time DC had something big planned for Johnson’s character. They decided to make the character a solo film without him making an appearance in Shazam! They wanted the character to have an origin story before facing off against the superhero.

You have to give it up for Johnson for sticking around for so long. 12 years if you will! Besides this will be the actor’s first time testing the waters of the superhero territory. It will be interesting to watch an otherwise morally right Johnson, approach an unusual grey character.

The New Riddler is Ready to Challenge The Batman

by Emily Keen

Paul Dano has been tapped in as the Riddler for the upcoming Robert Pattinson led Batman movie. For a while, there were rumors about Jonah hill being in talks to play the character, but it seems the makers have finally settled the deal with Dano.

Dano’s character in the movie will be named Edward Nashton who goes on to adopt a villainous new identity as Edward Nygma.

The news of Dano’s casting was confirmed by Matt Reeves himself through Twitter.

Tantamount to his name, the Riddler is known to challenge Batman with tough to solve puzzles.

Riddler’s character first appeared in a live-action Batman series in the 1960s. The character was then portrayed by Frank Gorshin. Following which, the infamous portrayal of the character by Jim Carrey in the 1995 film Batman Forever, left a mark.  In the recent Fox series Gotham, the role was marvelously handled by Corey Michael Smith.

The news broke almost 3 days after Zoe Kravitz landed the role of Catwoman in The Batman movie.

As for Dano, his previous credits include Escape at DannemoraSwiss Army ManLooper and, in the dual role of Paul and Eli Sunday in There Will Be Blood. He also produced and co-wrote 2018’s Wildlife.

Here Is What Former ‘Catwomen’ Think Of Zoe Kravitz’s Casting

by Kaylen Summers

It’s official! Zoe Kravitz will be putting on her ‘cat costume’ for Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie. The actress will be playing the coveted role of Selina Kyle against Robert Pattinson’s cape crusader this time.

Zoe Kravitz made her acting debut in the 2007 film No Reservations. However, her breakthrough role came from another superhero movie- X-Men: First Class (2011). The actress went on to give memorable performances in movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Now, Kravitz is all set to bring the popular comic-book character back onscreen, and she is getting a lot of support, especially from some of the other ladies who’ve previously played Catwoman on the big screen.

The character first made her appearance in comics as ‘The Cat’ in Batman #1 (1940). However, Catwoman was eventually transitioned into an anti-heroine rather than a supervillainess of Batman.

When the casting for the character began many actresses were rumored to play the role. It was only recently that Kravitz got officially confirmed to play the role and most fans were on board with the idea. Not just the fans, former Catwoman actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry are now also offering their support to Kravitz as well.

Michelle Pfeiffer welcomed Kravitz into the clowder while addressing about the casting in the Good Morning America. Pfeiffer who played Selina Kyle in the Tim Burton sequel Batman Returns, even had some “important” advice for the actress: “Make sure, whilst designing the costume, they consider how you’re gonna go to the bathroom.”

On the other hand, Halle Berry who took on the role for the standalone movie Catwoman, praised the casting choice on her Twitter, saying: “Special shout-out to your new Catwoman, the eternally graceful & extremely badass Zoe Kravitz. Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family!”

Anne Hathaway who had the most recent portrayal of the character made her opinion clear in a post on her Instagram account. “The biggest congrats to Zoë Kravitz on landing the role of a lifetime”, says Hathaway. “Well, one life anyway…⁣⁣ Enjoy the ride, Selina,”

The Batman is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. With the casting progressing swiftly, it won’t be long since we see the movie head into production.

These LEAKED IMAGES From James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad Looks Awesome

by Kaylen Summers

Even in its preproduction stage, James Gunn was not shy to show off inside-details and images for his upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad. Now, it looks like some leaked images from the movie set have surfaced online. The new images are giving us a pretty good look at how the heroes will be looking like in the upcoming movie. Though Gunn has been teasing us over the past months, this is the first clear look that we are getting at the new heroes (or villains, to be exact).

The leaked images show some members of the massive cast involved film, including Nathan Fillion, Flula Borg, Pete Davidson, Mayling Ng, and Sean Gunn. There is also Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang returning from the last installment and Sean Gunn is seen in a CGI suit. Rumors are suggesting that the actor will be playing Weasel, a costumed villain and enemy to DC’s Firestorm.

We still need to figure out who the rest of them are. But unfortunately, according to the director, many of these characters might not end up having a big role in the movie. In fact, according to Gunn, most of them will not even make it out alive by the end of the movie. But we are sure that in Gunn’s hands each of these characters will have unique and memorable.

However, if you are expecting the new installment to a continuation of the Will Smith starer, then you are wrong. Everything about the new Suicide Squad is brand-new and fans are really excited to see Gunn’s take on the characters. Afterall the guy does have a strong track record at Marvel, in making the blockbusters Guardian of the Galaxy and Guardian of the Galaxy. Vol.2. If the director is able to bring some of the emotional aspects from that franchise over to The Suicide Squad, it will surely be a blockbuster as well.

James Gunn is known for his works at Marvel. He landed on the DC project after being fired from Disney last year. Though he was rehired less than a year later, the director decided to finish off the DC project before going back to the third Guardians movie.

Let us know what you think about the leaked set photos. Here are some of them:

The Batman has found the Catwoman

by Emily Keen

Big Little Lies star Zoe Kravitz has been cast as Selina Kyle in the upcoming Batman Flick alongside Robert Pattinson.

‘Deadline’ confirmed that the iconic role which has earlier been donned by Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway has now been claimed by Kravitz. It will be interesting to see how the actress will blend into the skin of the gray character.

Kravitz has earlier starred in Mad Max Fury Road, X-Men: First Class, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in significant roles. That seems like enough a testimony of her aptitude to sizzle as the Catwoman alongside the Sly Caped crusader. Besides Kravitz already has some experience with the character. She was the voice of Catwoman in The Lego Batman movie.

Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, Eiza Gonzalez were also in the running for the role of Selina Kyle. But Kravitz was found to be the apt choice for the role of the Bullwhip flinger.

Jonah Hill will reportedly play Penguin the eccentric yet gentlemen of a criminal. Jeffrey Wright is in talks to play Commissioner Gordon. However, none of these actors have been publically been named by the makers.

Selina and Bruce Wayne share an odd relationship wherein the cat although a rival ends up being a reluctant ally of Batman on most occasions.

We can’t wait to see how Zoe and Robert will recreate this inevitable bond onscreen.

Director Matt Reeves has teased saying that “there will be a rogues gallery” for the Batman to deal with. Robert Pattinson in the reboot of Dark Knight will play a young Bruce Wayne, who is more of a detective than a vigilante behind a mask protecting the city against crimes.

The makers are looking to unlock a whole new Bat-world with this film. In addition to Catwoman and Riddler, Two-Face, Firefly and Mad Hatter are also rumored to appear to amplify the misery of Batman in this movie. The upcoming story of the caped Knight is a completely new script and does not aim at validating the adventures of Ben Affleck’s Batman.

Nothing has been disclosed about the plot as of yet. Though rumors have it that it might be along the lines of The Long Halloween comic book, where Bruce Wayne in his pursuit of a serial killer is faced with his many of his old foes along the way.

The Batman will open in theatres on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned to Spotflik for more updates on the movie.

Joker Has made it Among the Top 10 IMDb Movies

by Emily Keen

The audience around the world has clearly defied all the arguments of the film content inciting violence and helped Joker sit in the top tier of IMDb movies.

Joker follows the life of Arthur Fleck who is disenfranchised by the society where he tries to spread laughter as a clown. His frustration grows into untamed lunacy that takes the path of heinous crimes.

The fact that Joker is a comic book adaptation and still managed to grab a position in the list definitely seems like an achievement. But will it be okay to dismiss the spirited and purposeful experience it created just like any other art house cinema? How Todd Phillips was able to narrate a gritty story that sourced from the poster selling world of DC universe is something to reckon with.

The origin story of Batman’s arch-nemesis has no connection with the DCEU’s timeline whatsoever. Hence just tossing the movie into the segment of comics would be not entirely fair to this masterpiece.

The movie is a downright classic that explores the cultural imagination of times with such precision. There has been enough discussion around the potential of its content to trigger criminal minds. Despite the film only intending to reflect on the pervasion of the evil in society.

Joker currently stands at the ninth position in the IMDb top 10 list. But let’s not rejoice just yet as, there have been instances where a film entered the high ranks soon after release and then fell away in months to come.

It is not easy to maintain the rank in the top 10 given the number of factors that influence the ratings. But having said that we hope it does maintain the ranking because, well, it deserves it!

Philipps’ imagination clearly seems to have resonated with the masses and the flocking audience is a clear indication of its success.

The clown prince of crime currently shares the space with Shawshank Redemption, Both Godfathers, Pulp Fiction and it’s dear enemy- The Dark Knight.

The R-rated film is on its way to hit the $300 million worldwide collections.  DC’s previous installments have performed quite poorly at the box office. The Arthur Fleck lunacy has made up for all the low points DC had with the last few features.

Joker is currently playing in cinemas near you. Go watch the movie if you haven’t yet!

Joker’s Demonic Dance Moves are a Box Office hit!

by Emily Keen

Joker’s infectious energy is spreading onto tomato meter with the ratings being as unstable as the protagonist’s state of mind. But that is not stopping the audience from pouring in at the international screenings of the highly anticipated DC villain origin story.

The dark drama stands tall in Korea with a staggering collection of $2.25 million. It opened at $846,000 in Indonesia and $170,000 in Belgium. By the end of the week, it should have spanned 73 markets worldwide. The Batman villain solo flick opened in Hong Kong, Italy and Russia on Thursday. Predictions suggest it could bring in close to $60 million from the international collections.

Sony’s Venom currently holds the October records at the North American Box office with a collection of $80.3 million. The Joaquin Phoenix starrer began its run in the region Thursday night and is expected to surpass Venom in terms of October collections.

To top the crazy fan following the DC anti-hero has in India, the opening, fortunately, clashed with a public holiday pitching in a whopping $900,000.

Joker has clearly beaten DC’s recent releases including Shazam, Wonder Woman and Aquaman in terms of collection and reviews! But the list of accomplishments for the Warner Bros.’ R-rated romp does not end there. The movie received an eight-minute-long standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival before it won the prestigious Golden Lion.

The Long-range tracking report by BoxOffice Media’s chief analyst Shawn Robbins suggests in all probability, the movie could be the first-ever $100 million+ opener in October history.

The plot covers the origin story of DC’s rogue villain Arthur Fleck whose mental instability snowballs into a mayhem causing homicide mania. Joaquin Phoenix nails the character to its core and the concerns about the film sparking real-life violence are a testament to his skills.

The Oscar-baiting psychopath memoir directed by Todd Philips with Scott Silver’s screenplay also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp and Marc Maron in important roles.

Theatres across U.S. have been kept strictly under the guard of Law enforcement agencies post numerous threats of violence doing rounds on social media. But so far no slump of interest has been noted even with the film drawing concerns of distress. Although the film was aimed at a diehard DC fan base, the movie has interests piqued across demographics.

The cultural impact created by Heath Ledger’s Joker is unmatchable. Possibly it is this impact that is also driving the audience to step out and experience the genesis of this hysteric/historic character.

by Kaylen Summers

Christmas comes early as fans of the DC’s cinematic universe got a glimpse of what the cast for the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie will look like. A part of the cast involved in the project met with James Gunn over the weekend and the director shared a picture of himself with them. Margot Robbie, who will be reprising the role of Harley Quinn from the first installment was not to be seen in the picture as she is currently working on the reshoots for Birds of Prey.

Familiar faces in the photo include Nathan Fillion (Firefly) alongside David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect), Daniela Melchior, Mayling Ng, and Jennifer Holland.

The image also includes a caption from Gunn saying, “Hanging out with part of The Suicide Squad team this weekend. What a great group of people!”

It seems like the director is clearly excited to finally get to work on the movie and as fans, we are also eager to see what Gunn has in store for us with such an extended cast. However, we have to wait till summer 2021 for the movie to finally hit theatres.

It was only a few weeks ago that the full cast of the movie was revealed. The list included stars like Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Joel Kinnaman from the original movie with a lot of new members including Steve Agee, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Storm Reid, Flula Borg, Nathan Fillion, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi and John Cena. Unfortunately, no other details as to who will be playing which character is very much a mystery at this time.

The first installment of Suicide Squad was helmed by David Ayer. The flick turned out to be a critical flop- but was a monster at the box office. Even though a sequel was in the talks right after its release in 2016, it was never completely materialized.

However, in the turn of event that followed James Gunn’s firing from the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in 2018, DC and Warner Bros. bagged him to direct a sequel. Though Marvel immediately hired him back on board for the final Guardians installment, Gunn decided to with the DC movie first.

Superman Star Henry Cavil Excited For Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker

by Kaylen Summers

Apparently, we are not the only ones looking forward to seeing the clown prince of Gotham in action. Recently, the Superman actor Henry Cavill revealed that he too is anxious to see Joaquin Phoenix onscreen as the iconic Batman villain Joker.

Recently, DC’s Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee took his first impression about the Joker movie to Instagram. Lee revealed that the movie will have a lot for fans to analyze when all the dust settles.

Lee’s first impression of the Joker movie is as follows: “Director Todd Phillips’ Joker is intense, raw and soulful. He’s talked about how his take on the Joker is not beholden to the character’s comic book roots. That said, there’s absolutely nothing in this film incongruous with our understanding of who the Joker is. If anything, Joaquin Phoenix’s mesmerizing and unsettling turn as the Joker gives us a deep and fully realized look into one of our favorite villains, and I’m sure elements will be embraced going forward in our ongoing, ever-evolving mythology. That’s what powerful, compelling stories do. And without a doubt-long time, DC fans will be spending a lot of time unpacking the many story revelations and questions this harrowing cautionary tale raises.”

Replying to Lee’s Post was none other than Henry Cavill, who simply said, “Can’t wait to see this!!”

Directed by Todd Phillips, the movie got debuted at The Venice Film Festival and received an 8-minute standing ovation from an enraptured audience. With numerous positive reviews pouring in from critics, there is no doubt Phoenix will be a worthy contender for this year’s Oscars.

The actor admits that a lot changed for him during the production of the movie as his attitude towards Arthur Fleck evolved.

“Throughout the course of shooting it felt like every day we were discovering new parts of his personality, up until the very last day” he says, “It was his struggle to find happiness and to feel connected and to feel warmth and love and that’s the part of the character I was interested in. He was so many different things to me. Who he was in the first few weeks of shooting was completely different than who he was in the end. He was constantly evolving. I’ve never had an experience like this. The more unpredictable and looser we left it, the more exciting it was.”

It looks like Cavill has to wait a little longer like the rest of us, as Joker is all set to hit theaters by October 4th.
