Doctor Strange 2 Will Be MCU’s First Horror Movie

by Kaylen Summers

San Diego Comic-Con 2019 saw many big reveals. But the most awaited one was from the Hall H panel of Marvel Studios. With the Infinity Saga concluded with Spiderman: Far From Home, it is obvious that everyone is a little too much curious about what to expect next. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long, as Kevin Feige announced the new slate for upcoming Marvel movies.

Among the big reveals we got the confirmation about the next big-screen adventure of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange. Titled Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, the movie will also feature Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch as a key supporting character. Feige also confirmed that the movie will have a more horror-centric feel.

Fans who are already aware of director Scott Derrickson’s previous works will easily understand that prior to his MCU debut, almost all of his movies were focused on horror aspects. With the director returning back to his tonal realm, we are surely in for some pretty scary moments.

Scott-Derrickson-Benedict-Cumberbatch

Addressing the Comic-Con crowd, he explained: “When I came and talked to [Kevin Feige] about doing a sequel, I said, ‘I don’t want to do just another sequel. If I’m going to do it, it needs to go into the territory that drew me into the Doctor Strange comics in the first place’ – which is how they dipped into the gothic and the horror and the horrific. And we’re going to make the first scary MCU movie.”

However, there was no information dropped on who will be the villain(s) for the new movie. Will Marvel be going dark like DC?! Don’t get too excited! Derrickson can bring all of Marvel Comics’ freakiest threats onscreen. But, the studio will be overviewing the production to make sure that the movie will be rated PG-13. Talk about mood-killing!!

Scarlet Witch will be a surprise mix with Strange. Fans are already wondering how two characters will be getting alone together onscreen since not much about her role in the upcoming movie is revealed yet. But, we will be seeing the Wanda in the upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision before the sequel. The series will be hitting the streaming service in the spring of 2021 and will tie in directly with the events of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. This will be a massive shift for Marvel’s shows as they were not previously connected to the bigger cinematic universe.

Jeffrey Wright confirmed in the role of Batman’s GCPD Ally

by Emily Keen

The Batman director has spilled the beans on the actor’s identity set to don Commissioner Gordon. Jeffrey Wright is now confirmed for the role of the caped crusader’s ally from the police department.

The rumors of Wright playing Gordon have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. Although the Westworld actor’s onboarding was not verified by any of the makers or the directors until yesterday.

The Cloverfield director took to his tweeter account to introduce Wright as Gordon.

The tweet did not say much. He merely wrote the word Tweet!  And Gordon with a hashtag followed by a bat emoji. So there you go. You know who the head of the Gotham city Police Department is.

The Batman’s casting is still an ongoing affair or at least it seems so since there is not much confirmation on the finalizing of many characters. For now, all we know is that Twilight star Robert Pattinson will play Bruce Wayne, Zoe Kravitz has been tapped in as Catwoman, Paul Dano will don The Riddler and now it’s Wright in the skin of James Gordon.

Jonah Hill has reportedly walked away from the role of Oswald ‘Penguin’ Cobblepot which led to Jason Alexander volunteering to play the role. Although it does not seem that Reeves has accepted the Seinfeld actor’s offer.

The Batman, as far as we know, follows the life of young Bruce Wayne and the plot will be somewhere along the lines of Bruce Wayne trying to track a serial killer in Gotham City, keeping suspicious of almost every supervillain in the comic. But the makers were upright in stating that the film is a standalone affair and has no connections with the DCEU whatsoever.

DC movies do not have a great reputation of standing tall at the Box Office with a shared universe. On the other hand, individual ventures tend to perform a great deal. It worked for Joker. Might as well turn out the same way for the masked vigilante’s latest.

The film has locked June 25, 2021, for release. Its currently under the pre-production phase and hopefully we will have news on more castings rolling out soon.

Stay tuned to Spotflik for more details on the film.

Here Is What Former ‘Catwomen’ Think Of Zoe Kravitz’s Casting

by Kaylen Summers

It’s official! Zoe Kravitz will be putting on her ‘cat costume’ for Matt Reeves’ upcoming Batman movie. The actress will be playing the coveted role of Selina Kyle against Robert Pattinson’s cape crusader this time.

Zoe Kravitz made her acting debut in the 2007 film No Reservations. However, her breakthrough role came from another superhero movie- X-Men: First Class (2011). The actress went on to give memorable performances in movies like Mad Max: Fury Road and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Now, Kravitz is all set to bring the popular comic-book character back onscreen, and she is getting a lot of support, especially from some of the other ladies who’ve previously played Catwoman on the big screen.

The character first made her appearance in comics as ‘The Cat’ in Batman #1 (1940). However, Catwoman was eventually transitioned into an anti-heroine rather than a supervillainess of Batman.

When the casting for the character began many actresses were rumored to play the role. It was only recently that Kravitz got officially confirmed to play the role and most fans were on board with the idea. Not just the fans, former Catwoman actresses Michelle Pfeiffer, Anne Hathaway, and Halle Berry are now also offering their support to Kravitz as well.

Michelle Pfeiffer welcomed Kravitz into the clowder while addressing about the casting in the Good Morning America. Pfeiffer who played Selina Kyle in the Tim Burton sequel Batman Returns, even had some “important” advice for the actress: “Make sure, whilst designing the costume, they consider how you’re gonna go to the bathroom.”

On the other hand, Halle Berry who took on the role for the standalone movie Catwoman, praised the casting choice on her Twitter, saying: “Special shout-out to your new Catwoman, the eternally graceful & extremely badass Zoe Kravitz. Keep shining Queen & welcome to the family!”

Anne Hathaway who had the most recent portrayal of the character made her opinion clear in a post on her Instagram account. “The biggest congrats to ZoĂ« Kravitz on landing the role of a lifetime”, says Hathaway. “Well, one life anyway…⁣⁣ Enjoy the ride, Selina,”

The Batman is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. With the casting progressing swiftly, it won’t be long since we see the movie head into production.

Is There A Matrix Cinematic Universe In The Works?! Zak Penn Reveals

by Kaylen Summers

For movie fans around the globe, the recent announcement about the fourth Matrix movie came as a shocker. The sequel installment will see Lana Wachowski back in the franchise writing and directing the movie, and also Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss reprising their roles from the original trilogy.

Now, more news about the franchise is being revealed as Zak Penn confirmed that Warner Bros. is actively developing two Matrix projects.

It was about two years ago that Zak Penn let fans know that he was working on something new for the Matrix universe. Though fans were initially confused about whether it was a remake or a reboot, no one thought that it would be the further extension of the universe.

Here is Zak Penn’s Twitter clarification below.

“People keep asking, so let me clarify there are two different Matrix projects at WB. I wrote one set earlier in the timeline of the Matrix universe. Lana Wachowski is directing a sequel that I did not work on but can’t wait to see. Neither of them are reboots.”

Yes! It seems like we are finally going to get a ‘Matrix Cinematic Universe’.

Unfortunately, Zak Penn didn’t say much about his Matrix project than that it will be taking place earlier in the timeline. The writer has always been known for standing against Warner Bros. trying to reboot the franchise. Now, he finally gets his wish fulfilled as ‘The Matrix Universe’ is expanding further. As fans, we too share the same excitement.

While this news unfolds, we have been also getting more info on Lana Wachowski’s Matrix 4 movie as well. The movie will see most of its artists and technicians from the first installments return to keep everything uniform. In addition to that, last week the officials revealed that they are looking for an actor to portray the younger version of Keanu Reeves’ Neo. There are also rumors that we might see a young Morpheus too.

This is what Warner Bros. chief Toby Emmerich had to say about the movie: “We could not be more excited to be re-entering the Matrix with Lana[…] We are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix.”

With Lana Wachowski putting the finishing touches on the script and casting already underway, we won’t have to wait long to see the movie, it seems. However, there are no details as to where Zak Penn’s Matrix project stands in the development phase.

Exclusive! Guess Who Will Be Directing Spiderman 3?!

by Kaylen Summers

Spiderman is busy making headlines lately and the latest one is about who will be directing the third installment coming out next year. Recent reports are revealing that Jon Watts is in final talks to direct Spider-Man 3, the continuation to this summer’s blockbuster hit Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Sony and Marvel Studios finally reaching a deal to bring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This means that Watts will be able to bring a conclusion to his trilogy, retaining his signature youthfulness and fun energy.  With Jon Watts closing in on the deal to direct the threequel, it is obvious that the third installment (probably) will also be a huge success like the first two blockbusters.

Earning around $880 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming was a huge success at the box office. With the partnership paying off well for both studios, Sony was more than happy to let Peter Parker showed up in Civil War, Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. The success was also reflected in the Far From Home as well, as it made over $1 billion. This inturn made it the highest-grossing movie ever for Sony.

As remarkable as these movies are, Jon Watt’s directorial style should also be mentioned as it played a huge factor in making the first two installments so profitable. With the director back on franchise, it’s obvious that the next one will also be a box office frontrunner.

Since the creative team behind the last two movies are back, we are also happy that we will be getting a proper explanation to the heavy cliffhanger at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. If everything goes smoothly with Sony and Marvel, there is also a chance that we will be seeing Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in more MCU movies.

Spiderman 3 is set to hit theaters on July 16th, 2021.

Suicide Squad Unites: New Photo Of Cast Includes Margot Robbie & Pete Davidson

by Kaylen Summers

New specifics about James Gunn’s Suicide Squad has arrived as the director himself revealed that his version of characters will be mostly based on the iconic 1980s comic run. Recently, Gunn shared a new photo of the cast with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 star Pom Klementieff. The stars of the upcoming film were at a screening of Joker.

With most of the cast set, The Suicide Squad seems to be pretty huge even for James Gunn. However, the production has already begun and in honor of that, the director also posted a picture of an original comic given to him by his agent. Answering to one of the questions by his fans, Gunn had this to say about the characters and their source material origins:

“The original Squad was a group of adventurers, soldiers, and scientists, who explored and battled anomalous events. Ostrander introduced the idea of the Dirty Dozen with disposable, second-rate supervillains. King Shark didn’t enter the team till the 2000s. (Our) movie takes elements from all those timelines but is especially indebted to Ostrander (and Kim Yale).”

Though Gunn seems okay answering fan questions on social media, it seems like he has brought some secret-keeping Marvel skills over to DC as well. However, keeping everything tightly under wraps will turn good for us too, since it should make the movie more satisfying as it releases in 2021.

Whatever the case may be, we are sure to get some set photos to come our way in the near future, either officially from Gunn and the studio, or as leaked set photos and videos.

FIRST TIME EVER! Marvel To Release 4 MCU Movies in One Year. Here Is The List.

by Kaylen Summers

Just when you thought that all the dust is going to settle, Marvel Studios is back in the game, set to break new ground in the coming year. Four different big-screen MCU entries are slated for 2021.

First in the list will be Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings slated to release on February 12, 2021. Announced over the summer at San Diego Comic-Con, the movie will be part of MCU’s Phase 4 slate and will star Simu Liu as the titular martial arts master.

Then it will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will hit the screen on May 7, 2021. Directed by Scott Derrickson, the movie will see Benedict Cumberbatch in his a solo movie sequel as the Sorcerer Supreme.  Scarlet Witch will also be a part of this installment and Nightmare will be the main villain.

Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to release late on November 5, 2021. The movie will see Ragnarok director Taika Waititi back calling the shots and also the return of Natalie Portman as Jane Foster. But, she will be more than just a pretty face this time, as the actress is set to become the Mighty Thor.

Though this was initially believed to be the slate for 2021, it seems like we got a final minute entry into the list. With Sony and Marvel finally getting back together, Spider-Man 3 will also be releasing on July 16 of 2021. However, little is known about the specifics of the deal. Still, MCU fans have a lot to cheer for in the coming year.

The studio has been releasing two movies a year for quite some time. It wasn’t until 2017 that three releases were made in a year- with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok. However, 2021 will surely be a crowded year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as this is the first time they are releasing four movies in a single year. Guess we have to wait and see how things turn out for the studios with such a year planned ahead.

Live-Action Micronauts Movie Finally Gets A Director

by Kaylen Summers

With shared cinematic universes being the new big trend in Hollywood, more and more studios are trying to test their world-building skills for a share of the spotlight. However, when it comes to Paramount studios, things should be a little more desperate. The production house kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe-one of the biggest money-makers in Hollywood now, and sold the rights to Disney. Ever since then, the studio is despairingly trying to build a new cinematic universe and the latest addition to this will be the live-action Micronauts movie.

Decisions on who will helm this new superhero flick has finally reached a conclusion and it was reported that Dean DeBlois, the director of How to Train Your Dragon director will be calling the shots for the upcoming project. DeBlois has been working in the field of animations for many years and this movie will be his first-ever live-action project. Though Micronauts isn’t that much for a fan-puller at the moment, the Academy Award-winning director is hoped to bring an exciting story to the project.

Like many other Hasbro-based flicks, Micronauts also comes from a line of toys that were very popular in the late 1970s. Later, Marvel started releasing licensed comics based on these characters. The comics told the story about a microverse linked together by diverse worlds. A power-mad dictator named Baron Karza kills the royal family and eventually takes control of this world. However, a small group of eclectic characters bands together to form a resistance to stop his evil doings. The Marvel series ended in 1984 and later the property got resurrected by Image Comics, Devil’s Due Publishing and IDW Publishing.

The new movie will be produced by Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis, and Greg Mooradian through Hasbro’s AllSpark Pictures. Dean DeBlois will be writing and directing the flick which is slated for release on June 4, 2021.

Crystal Skull Writer Returns To Script Indiana Jones 5

by Kaylen Summers

For fans of Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford’s announcement about Indy 5 came with a lot of excitement. The actor even promised that the fifth installment from the franchise would begin production soon. Unfortunately, the whole project was in pre-production far too long as the studio was finding the right person to pen the new adventure. But now it seems like Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull screenwriter David Koepp will be returning back to pen the script for Indiana Jones 5. The writer was previously onboard the same project but was eventually removed.

After his departure, the studio tried many writers including Solo: A Star Wars Story writer Jon Kasdan and Dan Fogelman who wrote This Is Us. But none seem to work and finally, Koepp was brought back to the project. The news was revealed by the writer during a recent interview while promoting his new book ‘Cold Storage’.

“I actually am again.” The writer announced, “I’m working on it again. We’re still trying. And I think we’ve got a good idea this time. We’ll see.”

Koepp has been collaborating with Steven Spielberg several times in the past with movies like Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and of course, the much-maligned Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He is also known for the screenplays of movies like Spider-Man, Stir of Echoes and The Mummy.

Granted that blockbusters like this often go through a lengthy development process, it is evident that Steven Spielberg and Lucasfilm are having a tough time spinning the right plot for the movie. The movie will probably see Harrison Ford’s final onscreen adventure as the iconic hero, and with David Koepp back on board, we hope that Jones will get the farewell he deserves. But, things can also take a turn to the worse given what happened last time around with the franchise.

Currently slated to release on July 9, 2021, the movie will begin shooting in April 2020. But, till then we will keep you posted with further details.

Jurassic World 3 To Start Filming At Pine Studios In The UK

by Kaylen Summers

Not much was heard about the third installment of the Jurrasic World trilogy than rumors and fan speculations. However, recent reports are revealing that the studio is gearing up for the production of the film at the legendary Pinewood Studios in England. The news can be considered as a confirmation that the cameras will soon start rolling since the locations are locked in.

Planned as the third entry of the sequel trilogy to the original Jurassic Park trilogy, Jurrasic World 3 will see the return of Trevorrow to the director’s chair. The 2015’s Jurassic World grossed $1.672 billion at the box office. However, Trevorrow only penned for its sequel (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) with Derek Connolly and left the directing duties to J.A. Bayona.

With the director returning to helm the third installment, fans can surely expect some major surprises. Recently, Trevorrow released a short film, Battle at Big Rock, giving us a glimpse of what the world will be like with humans and dinosaurs inhabiting it. The 8-minute-long short takes place after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and is said to be setting up the events of Jurassic World 3.

Although not much about the cast has been revealed yet, it’s obvious that Chris Pratt is set to reprise his role as Owen Grady, and Bryce Dallas Howard back as Claire Dearing. But, we also hope to see Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill return as Ian, Ellie and Alan, respectively.

Being excited about this latest film, Chris Pratt had this to say: “When I heard the pitch, I was blown away. I can’t believe we’re gonna make that movie. I can’t believe they found a way to deliver on the promise on the end of Fallen Kingdom. ‘Wait, what? The island is blown up, the animals are out, we can’t put them back in the box. What are we gonna do? How is, not only the dinosaurs but this technology, moving forward, going to affect the planet?’ And we jump forward and it’s like, ‘Oh, oh right. Oh, damn.’ [Trevorrow’s] been working his butt off on it and it’s going to be pretty epic.”

Excited?! Well, you have to wait till next year then, as Jurassic World 3 is currently scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 11, 2021.

Lara Is Back: ‘Tomb Rider 2’ To Release In 2021

by Kaylen Summers

Let’s admit it. No one honestly saw this coming. After the 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot, a sequel for it was the least anyone would expect. Yet, it’s happening and much sooner than you can imagine.

Arriving on March 19, 2021, the flick will have Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander reprising her role as Lara Croft. But, there will be some change on who is going to call the actions. Recent reports reveal that filmmaker Ben Wheatley will be helming this time around, replacing the original’s Roar Uthaug.

Wheatley is best known for directing cult British movies like Free Fire, Kill List and High-Rise. With Wheatley confirmed for directing the sequel, there is some hope that the upcoming movie will be worth watching.

Helping the director out with penning the action-adventure movie will be Amy Jump, who co-wrote Free Fire and High-Rise with Wheatley. However, we are not sure whether the movie will begin from where the last one was left.

Last year’s Tomb Raider was based on the 2013 video game and grossed over $275 million worldwide. The movie’s plot was about Vikander’s character attempting to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance.

The first installment of Tomb Raider ended with Lara overcoming the (second) death of her father and escaping the clutches of Trinity. Even if the story doesn’t pick up from there, we sure hope to see the explorer with her trademark twin pistols again on a new adventure.

Alicia Vikander has expressed her interest in playing Lara again, even before the release of the first movie. She said: “Yes, I adored taking on the role of Lara. So yeah, we’ll see. If there’s an audience out there for it, then I would love to.”

Well, from what her character when through in the first installment, let’s hope she is ready for some more bumps and bruises. Because in Hollywood sequels have to go big or go home.

‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot: Sonya Blade and Kano Casts Confirmed

by Kaylen Summers

The word is out that two more actors have been cast for the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie from Waner Bros and New Line. Actor Jessica McNamee is on board to play Sonya Blade, while actor Josh Lawson will be playing the role of Kano. The two actors are in final negotiations to play the iconic characters onscreen.

Jessica McNamee is famous for her role in movies like The Vow (2012) and Chips (2017). But her most notable performance was in last year’s The Meg. On the other hand, the Australian actor Josh Lawson is known for his role as Doug Gugghenheim in Showtime sitcom House of Lies.

Though not much about the new film’s plot is know, there is a huge probability that it will be following the basic premise of the first game, which was set in a world where one-on-one deathmatches in a tournament held on the evil Shang Tsung’s island determined the fate of the world.

It was in 1992 that the original video game Mortal Kombat got first released. Having sold more than 49 million copies, it quickly thrived into one of the most profitable video game franchises of all time. In 1995 a movie adaptation of the game was released, with Paul W. S. Anderson helming the flick. The movie went on to gross an astonishing $122 million worldwide and an indirect sequel named Mortal Kombat: Annihilation was released.

However, the upcoming Mortal Kombat is expected to be hard R-rated, considering the amount of screen-carnage promised by the Screenwriter Greg Russo. “Since it’s already been stated by other members of the team, I’m gonna put this one to bed,” Russo tweeted, “MK WILL be R-Rated and for the first time EVER, FATALITIES will FINALLY be on the big screen (and no I’m not gonna say which ones) You’ll just have to wait for the movie & see!!!”

Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson “Jax” Briggs), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), and Tadanobu Asano (Raiden, the Japanese god of thunder) were previously announced as cast members for the reboot. British actor Lewis Tan will also be appearing to play a lead role, whose identity is still unknown.

The film, currently in pre-production, is expected to begin shooting later this year in Adelaide, Australia. Directed by Simon McQuaid, Aquaman director James Wan will be the producer of the movie.

Mortal Kombat is set to hit theaters in March 2021.

‘The Suicide Squad’: James Gunn Casts Comedian Steve Agee as King Shark

by Kaylen Summers

From specifically-themed birthday cake to plenty of speculation and rumors, we all knew that it would be happening one way or the other. Our expectations were not in vain as it is now official that King Shark will be a part of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and comedian Steve Agee will be cast in the role. Agee will be providing the voice-over to the humanoid super-villain with shark’s torso and a human’s legs.

The DC villain created by Karl Kesel first made a brief cameo in the comics in Superboy vol. 3, #0 (Oct. 1994) and later made his first full appearance in Superboy vol. 3, #9 (Nov. 1994). Even though he was a part of the Arrowverse series The Flash, Gunn’s new movie will mark his first appearance in a big-screen adaptation.

Gunn and Agee have already worked together in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which he played the Ravager Gef. However, he is known among fans as a comedian with a knack for stealing scenes. The actor has popped up in everything from New Girl to Superstore to You’re the Worst. He has also voiced for Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time and Netflix’s Twelve Forever. If that is not enough to note how incredibly talented he is, Agee has also written 306 episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

It was in 2016 that Warner Bros. and DC released the first installment of Suicide Squad, written and directed by David Ayer. Even though the movie went through pretty negative reviews, it became a box office hit earning up to $746.8 million worldwide.  The movie also suffered a bit of tumultuous post-production with Warner Bros. who were desperate on changing the heavily criticized dark tone of their movies.

The new movie will be a soft reboot with an original story from Gunn. Chuck Roven and Peter Safran will be overlooking the production. Though sequel will not be having direct ties to the first one, it will be picking up where the 2016 film had left off. Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) are reportedly reprising their roles from the first movie. Newly added members to the team will be Idris Elba as a yet-to-be-revealed character, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), and Flula Borg in a supporting role.

The Suicide Squad is expected to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021, with its production starting in September. With Gunn onboard, The Suicide Squad will be shaping up to be one of the most anticipated superhero projects of recent times.

Check out this space for more updates about the movie.

Nathan Fillion to Join the Ensemble of Suicide Squad 2

by Emily Keen

Nathan Fillion who is best known for his role in shows like Castle and Rookie will be making an entry into the DC universe. Although it is still unclear on what role he will be land in, the actor has been officially signed for the Suicide Squad 2.

The ensemble of the DC comic adaptation includes Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn). New additions to the cast include Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, David Dastmalchian as the Polka Dot Man and John Cena as Peacemaker. And just like Nathan, Idris Elba who is also officially on board the team has some mystery attached to his role as well.

James Gunn will be directing the sequel and the pre-production phase has already kicked in. Not to mention this is not the first time James and Fillion have been pairing up for a project. Their history goes way back when Fillion starred in Gunn’s Slither as well as in Super (a dark superhero comedy). Fillion also made his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe when he voiced for an alien in the Guardians of Galaxy.

Is Fillion’s role in Suicide Squad 2 is a crucial arc bearer or will he be seen just as a cameo? Well, that still remains a mystery!

Nathan Fillion is adored for his role as Captain Malcolm on Firefly, a series which aired just for one season but still has a cult following. Apart from Firefly, Fillion also starred in popular series like Modern Family and A series of Unfortunate Events. He was the voice of Green Lantern in animated DC series like The Death of Superman.

The sequel of Suicide Squad is said to be a total reboot of the first installment. James Gunn has refrained from calling this movie a ‘reboot’ or a ‘franchise’. Apparently, he has headed in a different direction altogether, not taking it down the same path as David Ayer did with Suicide Squad. The plot of the movie is still under wraps. The movie will open in theatres on August 6, 2021.

Will There Be Batman In Suicide Squad 2? James Gunn Answers

by Kaylen Summers

From production issues to studio interferences, the DC movies have always had a hard time in theaters. Even with such a massive franchise in hand, Warner Bros. was only able to get three hits- Wonderwoman, Shazam! and Aquaman, from all the DCEU movies that they brought to the big screen. However, the studio is trying to get back on track with some exciting projects lined-up.

One among them is the sequel (a soft reboot, to be exact) of Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn. For superhero movie fans, Gunn is a familiar name for his exceptional work as the writer-director of Guardians of the Galaxy- Vol.1 and Vol.2.  The director signed on to helm The Suicide Squad months after his firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Though he was eventually reinstated to work back in MCU, Gunn promised fans that he will finish the Suicide Squad movie first before working on any other project.

Since the movie is a soft reboot from the original one, fans were curious to know if batman would be appearing in the movie. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad in 2016 had Ben Affleck appear in several cameos as Batman. Even though fans are not expecting Affleck to return as Batman, they will be super excited if there will be a cameo of Matt Reeves’ Caped Crusader.

When one of the fans asked this question to Gunn, the director responded by saying: “You can check out Batman in The Batman June 2021. The Suicide Squad will feature mostly, you know, The Suicide Squad.

Sadly there won’t be Batman in The Suicide Squad. However,  we will be having plenty of familiar faces in the long-developing project. Margot Robbie will be back for her third appearance as Harley Quinn, with Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller). There will also be some new faces involved, including Idris Elba, John Cena, and Storm Reid.

The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
