Idris Elba is one of those actors who joined the MCU during its early days. The actor first made his appearance as Heimdall in 2011’s Thor directed by Kenneth Branagh and went on to play the role in both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. Elba also made a brief appearance in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and in Avengers: Infinity War- where the character met his unfortunate end in the hands of the mad titan.
Now, it seems like the actor is hoping to return back to the franchise. That’s pretty ironic coming from Elba, as the actor clearly expressed his remorse in playing the character with a wig and contact lenses for hours. He even blasted the experience in an interview from five years ago.
However, during a recent appearance on ABC Radio that Elba was asked about his role in the MCU to this point and in the future. Though character perished in the opening scenes of Infinity War, the actor was pretty open in expressing his desire to return back to the franchise.
“Of course,” the actor said. “Listen, Heimdall is essentially part of the god family. So you know, he essentially could be alive. I’m just saying! I’m just putting it out there. The Heimdall character goes way back into, you know, the Thor mythology, And I’m sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive. Of course, I would. Yes.”
Loki also died in Infinity War, but we will be seeing him in the upcoming series show on Disney+. So, as true fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we don’t mind seeing Thor’s best pal and keeper of the Bifrost back in action once again.
With that being said, the only thing left is to decide when and where we can expect Heimdall’s return. Of course, Loki’s upcoming show is a perfect place as the story is taking place on a different timeline formed as a consequence of the ‘time heist’ in Endgame. However, it will be more sensible for the actor to be returning back in Waititi’s 2021 film, Thor: Love and Thunder. If that’s not working out with Fegie, there is also Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3. Who knows. Maybe we will be seeing some ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy’ after all.
What do you think? Is there any possible way for Heimdall to return back to the MCU? Or is it the last of him? Let us know in the comments below.
