Post the not so successful second installment, Warner Bros is definitely not willing to take chances with the third sequel of Fantastic Beasts. And why not? It’s a lore that connects generations and has got to keep up with the reputation. So the initial filming schedule of summer 2019 has been pushed ahead into the summer of 2020 giving J.K. Rowling a fair amount of time to rework the script.
When asked about Fantastic Beasts 3 at the Toronto Film Festival Eddie Redmayne told ET the script is still being worked on. It is appeasing to hear that the makers are not taking the emotions of the cult for granted. The word coming from Newt Scamander himself testifies to the fact that there are efforts made to maneuver the arcs of the script to take the franchise in the right direction.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling will be planning for five movies of the Franchise. Crimes of Grindelwald script invited a solid criticism from many fans. Executive of Warner Bros., Kevin Tsujihara himself admitted that the sequel was not up to the mark.
He also assured the audience that J.K. Rowling was revising the draft of the upcoming movie.
“The second film didn’t perform as well as the first, but I think we know what we need to do to get the third film hopefully even better than the first one. And J.K. Rowling is really working hard now on that third script, and we’re going to get it right. She has an incredible vision of where she wants to go with this that is incredibly exciting. The hardest part of the franchise is you have such a big core fan base. That fan base really knows the lore and they want to go deep into these characters. But what you don’t want to do is intimidate people. You want to be able to create a stand-alone movie that’s enjoyable for someone who isn’t steeped in the lore.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hit the screens in November 2016 and the second installment opened in November 2018. To keep up with the two-year timeline, the third movie was slated to release in November 2020. But since The Crimes of Grindelwald did not land well, the makers thought it was best to take time and introspect.
Finally, November 12, 2021, was locked in for the release of Fantastic Beasts 3.
The franchise now bears the pressure of redeeming itself. And with a cliffhanger as major as the mysterious Dumbledore family tree, J.K. Rowling has a lot of explanation to do in the third movie. The stakes are high and the job is well, tremendous! It would only be wise to spend time than regret.
