Titled Dark Phoenix in its theatrical release, the X: men saga’s final installment from Fox will have a new title for its home release. Similar to Logan, the movie also took a standalone title when it hit theatres. However, the movie performed worse at the box office and it seems like a rebranding is inevitable before its home release.
The movie will be retitled X-Men: Dark Phoenix for its September 3 digital release and September 17 arrival on Blu-ray and DVD. Considering how much the movie struggled at the box office, the studio hopes that adding an X: Men to it will somehow entice more people to pick up the film.
The X: Men Saga started with X-Men back in 2000. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is the 12th movie in the franchise. The movie is the sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse, which also had a standalone title at first and then got retitled during home release. However, there are other movies that removed X: Men completely, like The Wolverine in 2013, Deadpool in 2016, Logan in 2017, Deadpool 2 in 2018.
The rebranding may seem like a minor thing. But, it is the last chance for the studios to make a profit from the movie. With just over $250 million in the global box office, the movie didn’t even make enough money to cover the full cost of both making the film and releasing/marketing it around the world.
Dark Phoenix‘s box office was a failure mostly because fans didn’t feel compelled to rush out and see it at the theater. but, they see it at home? What do you think? Comment down your thoughts below.
