How much ever we try to cover all the movies in a year, it is impossible to catch every single one on the list. We are bombarded with options every year. And then during awards seasons, we find out that there is actually much more to the roster than we have added to the list. The 2019 list still has pending contenders but we are already compiling the 2020 line up. Few that we are really looking forward to are listed below.
- The Grudge
The 2004 version of this film was terrifying. The film sees a detective investigating murders happening in a haunted house. The creepy force lurking the home is believed to pass the curse of evil to whoever enters the house. The curse begins to inflict a terminally ill woman, her husband and one other couple who somehow end up in the space ruled by the creepy presence. (In theatres January 3)
- Underwater
We see Kristen Stewart in her next action-adventure, this time battling strange creature underwater. The film follows a research team in a drilling station which is wrecked by a disaster and the only way the survivors can manage to escape the predicament is by walking across the seafloor. (In theatres January 10)
- Bad Boys for Life
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are returning once again to the silver screen with the Bad Boys streak. Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are on the roll one last time. (In theatres January 17)
- The Rhythm Section
Stephanie Patrick (played by Blake Lively) discovers that the plane crash that killed her family was not an accident. She seeks help from a former CIA agent who can help her track down the culprits. The quest to find the truth soon turns to a self-destructive action as the feeling of vengeance takes over. (In theatres February 31)
- Birds of Prey
The suicide squad spin-off has Harley Quinn returning to the silver screen. Joining her are Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Ewan McGregor. (In theatres February 7)
- The Photograph
Mae, the daughter of a renowned photographer is grieving the untimely death of her mother when she discovers a photograph that leads her on a quest of diving deeper into her mother’s early life. While she is at it, she meets a journalist and a tale of an unexpected romance unfolds. (In theatres February 14)
- Emma
The impression of Gwyneth Paltrow playing the meddling Emma Woodhouse is carved deep in the mind. But then again, why not? (In theatres February 21)
- A Quiet Place Part II
The real-life husband-wife John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are returning back with the second instalment of this highly acclaimed creeper. Krasinski will also be directing the film in addition to starring in it. The stay silent feature’s first instalment created a lot of buzz. Will it be able to surpass the level of horror it created earlier? We are yet to find out! (In theatres March 20)
