The series ties together fun, science and horror into a neat storyline that is extremely entertaining.
3. American Gods
Based on Neil Gaiman’s phenomenally successful book of the same title, this is an incredibly engrossing series. It tells the tale of fading old gods as they are replaced by new gods with specialities familiar to us 21st-century pilgrims. There are the God of technology and media; ones who have risen from our devotion to the world-wide-web and connectivity. Things get complicated as the plot moves further and you are in for a roll.
4. The Boys
This is a brutally funny adaptation of Garth Ennis’ comic book series. The hero of the story is a normal man whose partner is brutally murdered by a corporate Supe. Billy Butcher, who’s also had his own run-in with the superpowered, has a vendetta, and he teams up with the reluctant Hughie. A few more other non-Supes join in the fun and form The Boys. It all gets really messy from then on, making the series a super fun watch.
5. Good Omens
This the story of an antagonistic angel and a devilish demon who were present at the beginning of the universe. However, despite their obvious differences the two strike up a lasting friendship, and, when the time comes, to team up to prevent Armageddon. This show presents a whimsical world full of dry wit that you will come to love. The series overflows with irreverent humour and fascinating mythology, making it the perfect escape.
6. Tales from the Loop
This is an interesting story of a local town of people in Ohio live above “The Loop”, a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe. The Loop makes the impossible possible, and each episode looks at the life of the people it affects. The series explores the lives of those who live above The Loop in compelling and thoughtful ways. The depictions of imaginative alternate realities through this unconventional narrative are beautifully brought out with some great writing.
7. The Tick
This is the story of The Tick, an invulnerable hero who fights crime and has a nervous, befuddled side-kick. When the villain returns, the pair must work together to save the city’s citizens. This one’s a joy to watch from start to end with its superhero antics and sense of humour. It is a very interesting take on vigilante justice and the ultimate victory of good over evil.
8. Vikings
Similar to Game of Thrones, Vikings serves up a similar amount of blood-drenched violence and edge. The series follows a lowly farmer who becomes a respected warrior after years of sailing the seas of Europe, along with his wives and kin, in search of vulnerable countries to ransack. The story itself is amazing, and along with its glorious production design, you’ll be drawn in and unable to stop.
9. Catastrophe
This is a fun series about two first time parents. They are both from different countries and don’t really know each other that well. Their efforts to stay together after they discover they’re pregnant are what drive the series into hilarity and, at times, heartache. The story is hugely relatable and humorous with good laughs, memorable moments and some extremely amazing performances.
10. The Man in the High Castle
This is an alternate historic fiction series that imagines a new kind of world. The world no longer looks the same. Under Nazi rule the sprawling North American continent has been divided into three territories, and it’s inside those borders that this gripping story of a small Resistance group unravels. It makes for such compulsive viewing because it bears so many relatable moments from our current world that tie together well with its critique of politics and historic events.
